McLaren MP4/8 In Progress

Hi, I've just recently started work on Tamiya's Mclaren MP4/8. I built one about 2 years ago, but my skillz were awful, so I'm giving it another shot I've decided to model Andrettis car, since nobody seemed to have taken that approach. I've assembled the engine block, with most of the suspension components in place. Having built so many Ford F1 engines in the past, this part went fairly quickly, and smoothly.

I will try and get some pics.

Hi - about time for another update. I've sprayed the car with Tamiya Spray Pure White (TS26) and Flourescent Red (TS36) I must say the Flourescent Red came out pretty sweet. I've added some blue hydraulic lines, to simulate the active suspension system, etc.(not in current pic) And used cigarette pack foil for the heat shield

Looking really good I hope we can get some good sharp pictures when this beauty is finished, because I think it will deserve to be shown in high quality pics

Is there a chance to build this kit as the Mika Häkkinen version from the box?

Yes, there are options for 3 drivers, Senna, Andretti, and Hakkinen

Hi - another quick update. The last pics were taken about a week ago, but I didn't get around to updating my thread at that time. Since then, I have applied the non marlboro/mclaren decals , and applied a coat of TS-13 clear. I then bought the MP4/8 Marlboro fill in's from F1 Specialties. They went on smoothly, except I had to cut them in half for the rear wing. I also finished the tires, and sanded them down. I've just partially assembled the body to show you what it will look like once its done

Well, she's done. I took some pics outside on my picnic table, in overcast light. I clear-coated it with Tamiya clear, which came out nice and glossy. Marlboro decals from f1specialties went on perfectly, no problems whatsoever. I used bare metal foil for the mirrors, and for the rear bulkhead. I built this kit without an airbrush, due to my compressor being out of service, but I compensated and used spray cans, and some delicate hand brushing. The exhausts were sprayed with testors silver, and drybrushed with some tamiya clear acrylics. I also added some tubing, to simulate the complex active suspension system. Over-all, I think its one of my best kits to date, and they could only get better. Enjoy!
