Musk owns a home in FL. He has leases on launch sites for a new-er Falcon rocket. See: http://www.space.com/news/elon_musk_030416.html

Maybe he will try launching his McLaren (again) :-)

Well it was probably cheaper at the time to register the car in Florida than it was in California. We used to see a lot of cars here that were registered out of state because of the high registration costs in California. It used to cost roughly 2% of the vehicles value to register your car here. They reduced that rate for a few years, but now with the state's budget crisis, there are plans to raise it back up. 2% of a million dollars is $20,000 - which would be a ridiculous amount for anyone to have to pay for the same priveleges that many others pay just 100's of dollars for. My friend used to complain about the $2000 he had to pay to register his Porsche Turbo - I can't imagine a bill for 10x that. I'm sure once the registration costs rise again that CA exotic owners will go looking for cheaper registration costs again. Incidentally, this car as of two weeks ago was wearing a CA plate.
