help

OK, I'm a complete idiot when it comes to cars. I have a 95 Dodge Neon and my battery light came on...my car is not acting weird or anything, but I'm just worried that it came on...anyone know what's going on?

If you do, can you send me an email at [email protected]?

thanks

I think Katwoman will be able to help you. I moved this in the Neon forum for you.

Well, it will stay in it's forum. As soon as a member views your thread, they will post a response. As days go by and new posts are placed in the Neon specific forum, you post will go down the pile in posts. Just remember where it is so that in the future, you can find it.

Just visit the thread every now and then to see if someone has responded.

I might be able to help you just in case, while I'm at it.

You might need one of the following checked.

Your battery might be old and need replacing.
Your alternator might need replacing.

Either case, have someone check those two items to see which one needs the replacement/repair.

Greetings and welcome

Some things to check are...what DVS said, the battery may be getting old or the alternator may be going. Also check your terminals and the wiring. If you have a Chrysler battery, they are notorius for leaking that acid crap. It corrodes the terminals and will also corrode your wiring. It gets into the wiring, and like a cancer, easts away at it. If you do see corrosion and leakage from the battery, I highly suggest getting a non-Chrysler battery and replacing the wiring. This also goes for the wire going to your starter. I highly recommend Optima batteries because they are sealed (no maintainence) and have a gel cell...meaning no acid crap. They are expensive but worth it. You will need to slightly modify your battery tray to accomodate the Optima as it is slightly bigger than a regular battery for the Neon.

Also check the connection on your alternator and the wiring to that...especially if it is the original alternator and/or wiring.

Hope this helps you a bit

EDIT: if you do replace your battery and wiring, don't forget new terminals also. You can get them cheaper at the auto parts store because a dealership will rape your wallet.
