Damn

Okay, now I'm sure I'm going to get my preverbial ass kicked for this, but it's curiosity and understanding I'm hoping for. I just read the thread about the guy wanting to sell his Civic so he could get a 240 and do a s15 conversion. You guys completely beat his ass for it. I understand people are jumping on your bandwagon as of late with drifting getting bigger, and for you guys who've been in this scene since long before it was "cool" that's got to get old. BUT, in the spirit of tuning, no matter what kind, wouldn't it be more constructive to help the guy out so he could build a car you'd all be proud of? The scene will flourish anyways, with both people who've been in the scene since forever and bandwagon jumpers. But it seems like you're trying to avoid the inevitable and creating a lot of resentment for your scene at the same time.

Like the other guy, I'm selling my Honda and planning on buying a 240. I woudln't consider myself a jumper of your precious bandwagon. I love tuning cars, all cars, and I've been in the Honda scene since I started with cars. I know a shit-load about Hondas, but nothing about Nissans. I don't understand the resentment like someone is taking something that isn't yours to begin with. Anyways, let my ass beating begin.

Well screw that, if you like the 240sx get it. If what you're going for is tuning a car that you're interested in it then have fun. But if you're doing it cuz it is "the thing"...well not like anyone can stop you but be sensible about it. Also, its RWD car, it will NOT handle like a civic, expect to spin tires at stoplights when its even barely wet out, and the same with accidentally spinning out while taking a turn in those same conditions. But hey, have fun.

Well, that went over a hell of a lot better than I thought it would. It just seemed to me that if some of these people REALLY wanted to mold "their" scene, it'd be better done by helping "newbies" out and letting them know was was "cool" (I'm over-doing it with the quotations, I know) and what was a dumbass idea instead of trying to keep them out. Anyways, someone made a comment about a 240 not handling like a Civic. That's a good point, and another reason I'd like to get out of the Honda scene. I LOVE Hondas, but I'd like to expand my knowledge and abilities as a driver. Well, I appreciate all your replies, and not beating my ass over my opinions.

All I can say is if you run into something trying to drift the first couple weeks you have the car then please don't post it...that's mostly what pisses everyone here off. People who are new and aren't taking proper time to get used a rwd and think that drifting is just about getting out of control then flooring it.

You may not be one of those people, but as much as I dislike categorizing people who drive certain cars...honda people seem to be the type that do that if they ever get behind the wheel of anything that isn't fwd.

Enjoy buying/driving a 240 if you really like them, but don't trash it as it's not as common as a honda.

I totally agree with letting people do what they want with the car, in my opinion some things may be gay but to others it may be cool, so I'm not gonna trash them for what they do as long as they do it cuz THEY like it not for a trend

I also have a FWD car, although its not a honda luckily hehe but I know getting in a RWD car is way different, accelerating even feels different, but if you get a 240 spend time getting used to it before you get all crazy sideways style, I haven't been "in the scene" for a long time, I always loved the way 240's looked but it wasn't untill my cousin got a '91 last november that I really got into them because he was so happy with it

and I think one big reason people get mad when people do somethign to a 240 that they don't think is a good idea is because they are kind of hard to get your hands on and they feel thats just one less car for them to get a hold of so it is somewhat understandable for them to get mad, although I think they should limit calling people rice to when they put on altezza tail lights, neon lights under the car, those neon exhaust tips, etc.

Ive got a friend that has Neon underglow and a wing on a prelude and shockingly enough he's less ricey than a kid with a decent 350HP FD3S

Id say the one of the better defintions of rice is a kid with a civic and a wing that talks smack to people with TT supras. my friend hes got an SOHC Prelude with underglow, Exaust, and a wing - he knows its slow and he tells people that so no one bitches at him about how ricey he is
