Thats pretty vague. Bad rap for what? Engineering? Style? Funny odors?

i mean how sum people won't buy ford because of design flaws, mazdas just because their rotors, and hondas just because the early hondas had shit for engines.

Ford F-150s are still selling like hotcakes. Ford Taurus and Escort continue to rank in the top ten of new cars purchased. I don't think Ford has a bad rap at all. Mazda only had one car with a rotory engine, the RX-7. And is only recently bringing back the concept with the RX-8. And Mazda Miata's have a tremendous following. I don't think anyone would ever say that Honda has a bad rep. Civics and Accords abound, and not because they're cheap, but because everyone knows they hold their resail value extremely well and are some of the most reliable cars on the road. As far as early Honda engne being crap, I seem to remember Honda engines dominating the F1 scene some time ago.

Ford definitely has a bad rep. Fix Or Repair Daily but guess what? Ford is an all American vehicle and it will always have high sales and not to mention they make spacious vehicles and southerners love spacious vehicles.
Mazda also has a bad rep for transmission problems in their protégé line, along with other few problems. Mazda has however came a long way and they are making much better vehicles these days, so they don't need that bad rep hanging over their shoulder. Hondas' bad rep to my knowledge has completely gone away and they are doing very good on the market. Hondas' have a great resale value so whatever bad rep they had I don't think they need to worry about it. All due respect...
