Question Head Conversions & Tranny's

Hey guys,

I was reading through some of the threads and noticed somebody was saying something about being able to swap a B series head probably from a b20 onto a F22 block. I was just hopping somebody had heard of this. Maybe had some ideas of where to find this information. I've been search through google for 'honda f22 head conversion' but i've had no luck this far.

Also, for those of you with transaxle background. Do any of you have any ideas of what trannys (please associate them w/ a car they're found in) you mount up to a f22a4 or a6 w/ "sport" mode (the ever so nifty lock out torque converter. )

Any help finding such information would be much appreciated. Also are there any of you particularly accord enthusiasts in the Ewa area of Oahu, Hawaii. Having some troubles making friends around here. Maybe everybody doesn't like a stock honda =P.

I dont think it is the F22, I remember hearing something like this but i thought it was like the K20, so that instead of the ivtec it would be DOHC VTEC. cuz i heard ivtec is only on one cam, sorta like the SOHC vtec is only for the intake or exhaust valves(cant remeber which) and not the other.

but if a B20 head fit, so would a B18B or A, also with a bit of work a B16/17/18C1/C5 head would too, and if that head swap was possible onto an accord block im sure more people would be doing it and it would be pretty common.

whatever you heard was wrong, you cant mix honda engine families together, H's must stay with H's, B's with B's, etc, you cant put a B-series head on a H or F-series motor.

this is what i thought but i have read 2 exceptions, dont know they are correct from experience, just read them, one was some head from one series to another block, I could have sworn it was the F20C onto a K20 block, but maybe something else and maybe they were wrong, and on a p[age about a H22 swap into a accord it said that the H22 will bolt up to the F series trannies? once again they may be wrong though.

Ok, so engines within the same series (like "F" for this example) are compable in size say a F20B head matting to a F22B1 or F22A4 or 6 possibly?

I'm still wondering about a 5 speed auto gearbox, but I'm considering a stick again... Anyone know how hard it is to do the swap over. I'd assume the pedals are a simple bolt on, and run the cluch through the firewall. And the rest should be some simple bolt ons. I was really looking forward to customizing a stagered type auto shifter. That would be really cool looking. Especially in a 4th gen accord.

Thanks for any info, TTYL & Mahalo -coyote

well, the brake pedal has to go for a brake pedal from a car equipped with a stick, then the clutch pedal needs to bolt in, theres already a hole wiht a plate over it in the firewall for puting in the master cylinder. the hydraulic line you could do in 5 minutes, but it took me like 2 hours because i had the one from my exact car so I toook out everythin under the hood and routed it like factory. then you gotta put in the manual tranny, and you also gotta switch the flex plate/TQ for a flywheel/clutch while the trans is off.

then there is a bit of wiring so that the reverse lights still work, and if you have cruise then you gotta do morer wiring so that the clutch pedal switches work and the cruise will kick itself off if you press it. and im sure there is more wiring but i stripped my parts car of all wiring and just switched every harness.

None of this information is entirely accurate. It is theoretically possible to swap heads from different series engines. However the result will almost always be negative, and costly, since different heads aren't designed to go on different heads. As far as head swaps are concerned it only has to be the same displacement for the engine.

not ecxactly, maybe with some engine families but with B series any head will bolt to any block, and the ony thing that are differnet is dowel pins and oil supplies. a B16 head is put on a B18B block and is very common.

Hs and Fs are pretty much interchangable with a few mods on a lot of things......the Bs and Ds are a lot pickier.
