My Micra wont start.. any ideas??

Hi There people,

I was hoping someone will be able to give me a few pointers to identify the problem with my 1989 Micra.

For the last 2 days i have noticed that the starter motor wasn't ticking over very quickly when i went to start the car.

But today it wont start at all, it turns over about once or twice, but very slowly, then gives up trying to start..

I would be grateful if anyone could tell me how i can identify what is wrong, is it the battery? - its very old (but the lights are still working) It could be the starter motor (as it sounds as if it is struggling to turn over)

Any how, I don't know too much about cars, but I can't afford to get someone to have a look at it. It would be great if anyone could tell me how to tell what may be wrong with it...

cheers
Steve

It does sound like it's either the battery r the starter. to check which one - easily - either borrow a friend's battery, one that is surely working, or try starting the car with jumper cables.
