Lightbulb And Here We Go Again...

Is Bush still at it? It never ceases to amaze me what new excuse for war he can come up with, if this report is confirmed...

Yeah, I think Mogg would have heard something about this. He is part of the biggest rumour mill in the world.

I don't get your conclusion from the supplied link. We had plan upon plan for attacks on the Soviet Union in virtually every possible scenario; planning ahead doesn't mean you follow through on it. These are called contingency plans so that in the event a leader like Pyongyang pushes the situation to the breaking point, there is already a well thought out way to put an end to it. Tensions are of course high and the article outlines exactly why, but your (Milliardo) conclusion is that Bush is looking to go to war again? How exactly do you draw that out of this article?

Texen hit the nail on the head. Plans are made and never used.

Milliardo has been making doom and gloom predictions since he's been on the board. The article he posted is not big news.

Well, like I said, if this is confirmed. As yet it's not, so why suddenly become defensive? But the article doesn't seem to show them to be simply contingency plans--it seems that the thinking is such and such talks are bound to fail anyway, so the need for another war effort. And so it is that the U.S. is on another war path.

Pure conjecture.

For myself, IF I start to see George giving press conferences evry five minutes to tell the public how badly Koreans are treated by their government, then Iwill be very nervous. There have always been countries all around the world that abuse civil rights, but so far,George has only turned the blowtorch on Iraq...

Taranaki is correct, NOTHING you just said is supported by the article other than it's unsubstantiated mention of non-specific US "hawks" and "influential leaders". And we're not being defensive, we are simply asking how you get to such a conclusion based upon the facts that are now present, which certainly suggest it'd be prudent to think about military strategies against North Korea at this time. Speculate all you like, but it's not going to be worthy of much discussion when it's just a wishful idea rattling around in your head.

Of course the article also doesn't mention that North and South Korea have been at war since 1950, that bullets have been exchanged over the DMZ many times in the past (with no invasions following), that they've been up to this game for over a year now and seem to just be after more handouts and concessions from the West, or that we've had contigency war plans for North Korea since 1953. No, this isn't big news.

This situation is potentially FAR more threatening to everyone's safety than Iraq ever could have been, yet you dismiss possible armed conflict as US war mongering??? What exactly should the UN or any other country do should North Korea decide to both produce nuclear weapons and sell them to anyone able to pay? Diplomatic and military forces led by the UN didn't finish the job back in '53, can we do it right this time? Or, in your eyes Milliardo, will the US be at fault for whatever happens in North Korea?
