Any car can be fun, its all in how you use it.
For 2K and reliability, you could do a lot worse then a Civic.

I'd go with a Civic. I'm in the same situation: I have about $2000, and I found a '93 CX hatchback with 120k miles for $2800. I'm gonna try to talk the owner down to 2k. I know the CX has a pitiful engine, but I'm gonna eventually save up and do a b16 swap. Check autotrader.com everyday. It helps.
