This is a Neon owner's friend:

Print this out and keep it in your glovebox.

Code 22 means your engine coolant temperator sensor is out of range...or not functioning properly. This sensor is basically the one that reads your coolant temperator and that's how your temperatue gauge shows the reading. If it is not functioning properly, you could be overheating and not know it, or running too cold. I personally prefer Mopar parts when it comes to stuff like this. It runs about $30 from the dealer. If you have the DOHC motor its right under the end of the fuel rail on the left side (when you are facing the car). On SOHC's its further back and behind but I am not sure exactly where as I do not have one. I would advise replacing this as soon as possible expecially with it being summer.

Also get yourself a Hayne's or Chilton's manual for the Neon, it can be your best friend.
