Rear Seat Project

Thinking about replacing my rear seats in my S13 with a custom box. Has anyone done this before. I would really appreciate any tips\design ideas you got.

Also I wanted to try and build in a compartment for a small nitrous bottle (dont flame me for the nitrous, this isnt my track car, i just want a little zip when i need it).

speaker boxes aint hard , just gotta know ur angles, and get the right subs for the right setup.

lemme show u what i mean... i made this box, in 2 days, but i didnt carpet it, and the plexiglass i cut and bent at school with a heating trench. buying the carpet probably tomorrow.

FULL FRONTAL VIEW - not too happy with the holes, allthough they are perfect circles, i tried 1 12 inch sub, and it was a perfect fit, then i tried my friends Type R SWR-1241D subs, and it was movable when dropped in the whole, nothing a little reworking cant fix

REAR VIEW - love that plexi look.

SIDEWAYS - the way real men do it
the plexiglass has 1 spot in the middle that was bent twice but u cant notice it unless u studied it, cause it looks like it belongs there cause the plexiglass is so big.

and i painted the inside with HIGH GLOSS white just incase i wanna put a red cold cathode to match my guages when i get em, its not rice, i dont give a shit, i love the color red on lights, its so evil.. and the lights will be hidden and only the reflection will be visible with the back seats down if they go down in a 240.. if not, then no lights at all....

do the back seats fold down in a 240sx?
have never been in one.

5/8's inch, i know it should be 3/4 but i didnt have the cash nor the strength to carry that.

If you have a decent port you will probably be ok with the thickness of the wood, afterall if it's going to crack, it'll only be air-pressure build-up, so a good sized port should fix that. If you wanted to, you could add some metal bracing to the outside of it, under the carpeting. The metal doesn't have to be thick at all, and it'll help quite a bit with strength.

Hey im thinking of doing the exact same thing... not the NAAWWWZZ but replaceing the back seats. I dont realy want to give up my trunk space and my back seats are always empty and i have my MAX when i wana car pool. Not like anyone likes to sit in the back of a S14 anyways!!! but im thinking of puting my box where my back seats use to be too. No ideal if i wana make a custom one, i already have a box with my 2 10" Kicker comps. baby!! and ohh well ya

good luck!!

No, real men don't need to do it sideways.

nice box... Mmmm Box

To replace your back seats with a box i would actually do 2 smaller boxes, get them in the car and position, then bolt them together...

You may want to go look in a junkyard at a 2nd gen RX-7..
look at how their boxes are, maybe buy the parts and modify them to suit your needs..
