What to check for?

Sorry guys this is such a noob question, but i been looking around for a 240sx anywhere from a 1989-1993 and i was wondering what problems i should be looking out for when searching for one of these cars.. Like are there certain things i should look for before i just go out and buy any random car like an idiot?

I am thinking about doing an engine swap and probably whatever else i can afford.

If you feel that you need to flame this thread go ahead but send them via email so i can have a laugh. otherwise. Thanks for the help in advance.

depends how fast you want to make it. if you want a 5pd get it with the car because a conversion would take too much time and effort.

also go for a 91-93, the 89-90's have a different engine (15 less hp). if you are going for an engine swap the engine really shouldnt matter or the exhaust, since you'll be replacing all of it. if you want to do a turbo which would be better cost effective than a swap and get you a faster car, then try to find a really low mileagle car. and also if you turbo it i believe that it doesnt matter if its single cam or dual cam, they make aftermarket single cams that would actually outdo performance dual cams.

there are lots of things that go wrong with 240's, best bet is to put them in the back of your head when you're buying unless you are going for a complete show car. the following is a list of known problems

ka24(d)e thin body parts that dent so easily faded windshield wiper switch cigarette lighter that pops out power windows that stop working odometer that gets stuck leaky bushings uneven camber rear defroster that doesnt work clunky steering overheating blown speakers faded seatbelts faded temperature control automatic seatbelts great interior fabric schemes shitty brakes great way of changing headlight bulbs trunk fabric walls that break off dropping a strut bar nut in the rear brake lights burn out leaky injectors leaky windows strange creaking noises awesome moonroof brittle interior cloth leaky injectors spot on the armrest that rubs away power antenna not working nasty shift boot that falls apart people capacity: 2 people and a midget with no legs wonderful black tape that wraps around the body no cup holders bad timing chain guides driver's side rear lean siezed transmission drain/filler plugs

dont get this car if you dont have enough money to maintain it...

can't you fix those problems????

because i am trying to get a 1990 base trim..

i know the windshield wipers are garbage
the rear defroster is probably dead....
the steering wheel is sticky
the shift boot is trash, but i am planning to get a shift gate anyways.. or make one..
the rear lights are probably burnt out or whatever..

the car has no battery..

you could fix them, but by the time your done you could of bought a newer 240SX that still has some life in it. Dont bother with the swap after all is said and done its not worth it. Turboing the stock engine is a much better way to go and cheaper. That car is 13 years old, you must expect its probaly gonna have some problems. Always expect the worst, 240sx's can take alot, alot more then any other car i can think of. Mine got backed into by a mac truck and it was to much to fix it. Before i called the junkyard to get ready for a new delivery I burned out from redline a bunch of times and did a bunch more stuff i always wanted to do, it still ran when they towed it away.

or you could find one without a motor or high millage so that its cheap and you can buy an engine with like 30-40k on it for like 800-1000 dollars then put on a turbo and make your way from there
