What is the best way to modify 2DR intake?
I have a 98. The intake looks like it was designed to get cold air from under the car.
Is it worth the power gains to get a free flow intake? I might just get an aftermarket replacement filter if it's not worth it. Any brands work well with these cars? K&N? |

If you want a few HP from an intake the best way to go is ram-air or cold-air. Short ram is only for looks. The replacement K&N will perform better than a short-ram @ normal temp with hood closed. Any HP is good HP.

There a few companies who make a K&N style filter. The only 2 I can think of right now is Accel Kool Blues & K&N

The above link was an article about most of the more known intakes and filters. Short Rams do increase HP because of the greater airflow. The only reason Cold air intakes have a greater HP gain is because the filter is normally underneath the car and not in the engine compartment. However they have less air flow. Cold air intakes also have a possibility of accidently being submerge in water depending on where you live. If you dont have a bypass valve installed as well you can say bye bye to your engine if this happens to occur. Which isnt likely, but all it takes is one occurence. Also having the car low to the ground would increase the possibility of this, if the car is lowered. Other intakes include the new AEM V2 intake which suppose to be even better than the cold air intake in Horse power because it increase power throughout the entire rpm range. Some other more expensive intakes would be consider ice box intake or some intercooler intakes which actually has the short ram affect but cools the air as well before it goes to the engine. The best cold air intake according to recent test was the AEM, best short ram was INJEN and DC sports. |

if you want a cheap effective intake you should
buy a K&N drop in filter and remove the lower resonator and get some dryer hose adn attach it to the bottom of the stock airbox and route it to one of the holes on the front grille, this one is guarranteed to give you some cold air! or you could just buy a cheap 30-50 dolllar ebay cold air intake and pray it doesnt break on you |

Dual exhaust going out the corners on a chevy truck is in my opinion red-neck! but taking out intake resonators is what everybody should do you'll take out a lot of restriction and free up some power, the car is not even that much louder |

I might get a new muffler or 2. Wouldn't there be more exhaust flow if it wouldn't have to go through the Y pipe?

Yep it would free it up more but you might not have enough back pressure say if you x-piped it or something like that.
