I will shoot you a photo and post it the next time I have it in the air. I will be putting it up shortly (maybe even today) to put the new brake system in. What I did was mount the tow hook in such a way that it angles downward (keeps the strap on the hook in a pull) and the lower bolt penetrates both sides on the tubular frame. In other words, one of my hook bolts enters one side of the frame and exits the other. I think you will see what I mean when I shoot a photo of it.

Sclud, I think you can get an idea of the mounting location if you look at those pics Ned posted (he referenced the link above, just make sure you click on 'Next 18' to get to the photos). In fact, Ned, great idea to post the rear view mirror shot! Thanks,

Jim

Looking at Ned's shot it looks like (with that tire size, what size is that BTW?) it takes up no more rear veiw space than what I already lost with the child seat in my X.

That would be a 32X11.5X15 BFG.

I do have a request for you; please post a pic of your tow hook. I had a tow hook in the rear as well, but it was placed on the lower portion of the "C" in the stock holes, below the location of the stock mount for the trailer hitch. It was my "last resort" hook and I only intended on using it in a straight line pull or in a dire emergency. What I'm wondering about is how ya got two layers?

Thanks in advance, Ned
Good thing you never used that tow hook! Schludwiller had one there too and it bent the crap out of his frame at the end with only a small tug.

I can believe that after having repaired the crash damage on Project X. That channel is not real tough without some reinforcement, especially if an unusual torque is put on it (such as a 4,000 pound pickup driving up over your trailer hitch). My experience has been that if you can get at least one of the tow hook mounting bolts running through both sides of a tubular frame, you are FAR better off.
