0-60 is horrible now!!

Today I drove my car to a flat road with a person in the car to time me on my 0-60. I have 17' Chrome Excel H-50's, Frankencar intake and Greddy Exhaust ( Along with a bunch of other mods that make no difference). I drove 0-60 twice and I kept getting 9 seconds. Can my big chrome rims make that drastic of a difference, I mean I should be getting at least under 7 seconds. My car has only 50,000 miles on it and it is a 96. What could be the problem I do mods to make my car faster but I had no idea chrome would affect my times this much. Please Reply!!

9 seconds, on a 96 Maxima, that's slower than any Max I've ever heard of. Are you sure you're measuring it correctly? Also, is your car Auto or Stick?

17" Chromes are not going to make you lose 1 or 2 seconds, especially at that size. It is true though that a heavier wheel requires more torque just to get it going, it is also true that a bigger wheel takes more rotational inertia to turn it.

I just somehow believe that you are not doing something right, not that you can't count but relying on your own vices is a little like trying to be your own lawyer in court. (Remember the old saying, he who have himself as a lawyer has a fool for a client, or something like that).

In this case maybe you ought to go buy a G-Tech pro.

My tires are 235/45 so the speedometer shouldnt be off. Any tips on how to get a better time, when I launch it takes forever to get everything moving because of the chrome.

Heavy wheels + Your timing method = your 9 second 0-60
Go to the track with your stock wheels on and get a true 0-60 time.

You never answered whether or not your car is Auto or Stick? Besides that you live in Wyoming and I believe you guys have a high altitude/atmosphere there, so maybe the barometric pressure or thin air is affecting your times as well.

Anyway, I wouldn't rely on my buddy with a stopwatch or any other clock to test my times. Go to the track as stated or buy a G-Tech and make sure when you run your car it is completely stock with no added weight (such as your buddy in the car).

Make sure you also have less the 1/4 tank of gas and that your tire pressure is correct but remove everything from your trunk except your spare and then see what you come out with.

You don't notice a difference? Wait, your break out a lot easier, hummmm no change there right??

Your 16's break out easier because they weigh less and are easier to spin. Throw some good rubber on your 16's and you'll feel the difference.

Tracks don't give a 0-60 time.

We all realize that tracks don't give time for 0-60, what we were all saying is go somewhere where he can do accurate testing of whatever devices he would use to properly measure his times, ie with G-Tech or something.
