I was getting gas at a local station and the pump kept shutting off.
I was getting gas at a local station and the pump kept shutting off as though the tank was full when I knew it wasn't. Now the service engine soon light is on and the next and last time I got gas it did the same thing. The pump kept on shutting off like the tank was full. I see in the posts how to reset the light but will this also take care of the full tank syndrom? What is causing this?

This isn't the right place for your post but here's my reply:
How are you sure the tank isn't full? What is your definition of "not full" anyway? How low was the guage and how much had you put in before it started shutting off? Continuing to fill the tank after the pump shuts off can and has caused parts of the fuel vapor recovery system to be damaged and trigger a check engine light. There's an Evap Purge Control Valve solenoid under the hood that is usually the culprit, though there are several other components that might also be affected. Brent |

I apoligize for not placing this post in the correct area... the headings are not real straight foward.
I knew the tank wasn't full because I had run on the tank of gas for the normal period of time and also because the gas guage was near the empty indicator...my definition of not full means that it didn't take the expected amount of gas and that the pump kept clicking off before the tank was evan 1/2 full... I'm sorry I wasn't more clear in the details that I thought a educated person should automatically know. Anyway, in case anyone else has this problem I was able to resolve it... I disconnected the battery for about an hour which I knew from other postings would reset the service soon light...it also resolved the other issue at the same time. Thank you much for this service. |

I just wanted to clarify that you weren't trying to say "the gauge was on E and I had only put in 17 gallons when it shut off but it's a 19 gallon tank" or something.
