First Car, Questions

I'm looking into my first car very soon. I'll be 17 in about a month and a half. I have decided to buy a used Mustang. I want to have a manual transmition and convertiable newer then 1994. I was wondering if you guys could give me any pointers on where the best places to look for the car is and if there are any major mechinical problems that that type of car has. I was also wondering what a basic price for that kind of car could be.

Finally, I appoligize in advance if this forum isn't the right place, this question has been asked thousands of times, or if I'm doing any other stupid, sterotypical newbie actions.

Btw, multiment; Bit of advice, try to stay away from the LT1/LS1 Camaro/Firebirds especially with the extra weight of the convertible.

For shame, steering him away from a more potent vehicle than what he's looking for

Besides, he sounds like he's already made his decision on what he wants, so why worry about that?

I meant if he buys his convertible to stay away from the LT1s/LS1s... everybody should know the outcome of the situation especially since hes planning to get a convertible

Ah yes, I see that it could be taken that way now, now we're even on misunderstandings from the thread in the Camaro forum

Interesting. I find your statement very funny by your ignorance!

Well, first off Multiment, glad you decided to go with a Mustang! Don't be discouraged by people making fun of vert's, if that's what you really want. Start out looking around and price shop first, don't go buying the first mustang you see. Just gain some knowledge about what you want and what you get for the price people are asking. You can learn a lot just by window shopping. Also price will vary with 3.8's vs.4.6's, mileage, dealers vs. private sellers, etc., etc., etc.

Don't worry about it, everyone has to start somewhere. It's better to get started in the right direction, then being pushed away.

Good luck,
-Craig

I'm not sure why you picked newer than 1994? Newer than 1993 you mean? The 1993 model year was the last of the older fox body style. 1994 saw the introduction of the SN95 cars, which basically looked identical from 1994-1998, save for a couple minor changes like the wheels and taillights.

I would choose the 1998 or newer V6 to get rid of the head gasket problems, and as long as I was going with those years, the 99 has way more grunt.
