Supercharger on a GT?
First of all, I was just wondering if this could be done. I have a 97 Grand Prix GT, and I have always wanted a GTP, but we found a hell of a deal on a GT, so I compromised. That is beside the point. Anyway, I am wondering if there is a way that I could get my hands on the supercharger that they use in a GTP, and put it on my 97 GT, without having to swap engines. My engine only has 30,000 miles, and that is rare in a 6 year old car. If it is possible, how would you do it, and where could I get the supercharger? Any help would be appreciated.

It can be done, but it's likely to be pricey. Im pretty sure any supercharger from a series II GTP would suffice, but what Im not sure about is the engine vin codes, which are K for the non-supercharged engines, and 1 for the supercharged engine. What you would probably have to do is go through and check for any differences (besides obvious ones) between the engines. For pricing on the S/C you could probably go to any local pontiac dealership and talk to their wholesale parts guy about the cost of it and the wiring, and maybe talk to a technician or someone who's done it before on what it would entail.

Many people assume that converting a GT into a GTP is as simple as bolting on a supercharger, but it's not. Take a look at this recent thread in ClubGP
Now if you still have your heart set on the conversion one such kit can be found here. Those prices do not include labor, so it would have probably have been cheaper to bypass the GT and waited for a real GTP. Good Luck. |

I think that I'll focus on other things for a while now, and wait, I might just save up my money and wait until I get out of college and get a 2003 GTP or somehing, I don't know! Thanks for the time and effort to help me

Heck, your Grand Prix with 30,000 miles is probably worth $12,500. I have seen used 1998 GTP's for $11,000 with 70,000 miles which isn't all that bad. If you want a GTP then it would be well worth a strait up trade.
I have talked to people who have installed a GTP supercharger on their 97 GT. They said they had over $3000 in the project. You can sometimes find the Supercharger off the GTP engine in ebay that run pretty cheap. |
