Thumbs down bmw m3 engine problem

My brand new 2002 bmw m3 convertible(10000 miles) needs new engine ,because something went wrong after routine oil service.engine made some type of noise during acceleration,as if something loose/stuck in fan belt!can you believe that?anyone else had such problems? will the car be same with new engine? resale would go down a lot??

I've heard of this too. I heard it has to do with the SMG. The owners are downshifting with the revs too high causing problems to happen.
