Pretty sad eh? In all of fords wisdom they figured the V6 drivers would not want to go fast.
Its a big v6, buts it an old school, low revving pushrod engine, thats limited by weak heads and cam. The 94-95 v6 mustangs made 145hp. The 96-98 made 150 and the 99 and newer make 190 hp. The 2005 mustang, is supposed to drop the 3.8 in favor of a 3.0 making maybe around 210 hp.

the 3.8's in no way suck, stock, they are weak, but modded, make nice motors.
i have a Factory Supercharged 3.8 (Eaton M90 @ 10psi) in my 91 Thunderbird Supercoupe, and the motor makes fine power for stock. With simple mods, i will easily be making 300+bhp. Procharger is getting low 13's from a 99+ auto v6 stang with just 3.73 gears, exhaust, drag radials, and a 11psi Tuner kit. Oh yeah, and theres a guy in Canada with a 4.2l stroker with 99+ 3.8 heads, 90 SC block, Cam, 1.73RR's, intake, fuel, etc., and should be making around 260+rwhp/300+rwtq on motor, and its setup to handle a 200shot with no problems. Can you say 500rwhp/550+rwtq from a v6 stang?

don't dis the 3.8 The 3.8 is about the longest lasting v6 you can buy. I'm going to be sixteen in a year and i'll be buying a mustang v6 because i can't afford the insurance on a camaro or v8 mustang. American cars have great hp but the extremely high insurance is the reason that dumba$$ kids buy ricers.

Throw in the fact he needs to change the transmission/rear end to get it to hold together and you've got a very expensive combo he's creating. I don't anticipate he'll have too many problems with bone stock newer GT's or even the old SD fox 5.0s, as soon as he runs into a light modded 5.0, he'll have his hands full unless he sprays. Sad but true. Also he should be running a forged crank/rods/pistons setup on that combination if he expects it to hold together. All that money for what? Will the car be cool? Yep. Is it something to brag about in terms of the engine's capability? I don't think so. Anything can be made fast with enough money, and the $1000s he's spending to get the power he's expecting

90 hp on a 4.6 isn't too hard...
Just stage III heads and a wild cam... Of course, pulleys, SVO/Bullitt intake, mass air, the usual boltons would help too. |
