black boxes

No doubt you are all familiar with the data recorders fitted to aircraft known as 'black boxes'.Would it surprise you to know that the technology is already being applied to some new cars, and assisting in the case for the prosecution of bad drivers?

http://www.newhouse.com/archive/jensen061203.html

Is it 'fair law' to use a person's possesions to secure a motoring conviction against them? While I can see some merit in cases like this one,how long will it be before every new car has to be fitted, and the readings made available to the traffic department? The potential repercussions through the performance car industry are huge.

They have a similar thing in Singapore. Every car has this machine that you put like a charge card into, say it holds like 20 dollars or whatever, every time you come into the city it just takes money off the card. I'm pretty sure that's how the system works.

Oh,and re: black boxes: The government trialled a system here a few years ago to see what the last words of a driver were before an accident. Not suprisingly, in 88% of the cases the last words were "OH SHIT", however, in the city of Hamilton, in 99% of the cases the last words were "check this out bro!"

i think thats where they got the idea from.

Its not been introduced YET

there some country where there are only so many driving licences available and people have to bid on them over and over again to keep them and they go for high prices.

This whole idea is rediculous. The state should not be funded off traffic violations. I need to start rallying against things like this. Everyday, it seems we lose some privacy in some way.
