87 grand national electrical short
Hey Guys,
I have an 87 grand national with 29,000 miles. I've had it since 1992. It has started blowing the 20 amp fuse that controls the dome light, power locks and radio. I know it is a short somewhere. I thought it was blowing when the door opens to control the dome light. I stuck a new fuse in and while i was fiddling with the control panel for a bit it popped it as well. The fuse doesnt pop when im riding in the car. Seems like while its sitting is when it blows. Has anyone encountered a problem like this and is it a pain to find the short. I have thought about taking it to a local place that specializes in automotive electric (finding shorts etc. Also I have the digital dash in it. All of a sudden now, when i start the car up the speedometer etc always goes to metric first and i have to change it back. I never had to do this before. It would always be on regular. Thanks for any help and its great to have a forum for these great cars!!! Vinny |
