4wd electrical problem

I got in my X this morning and engaged 4wd. Although I could tell it was engaged, there is no indicator light on the dash all of a sudden. Any ideas on troubleshooting? I'm sure there is an actuator switch somewhere but I'm not really sure if its under the shift boot or if its down on the transfer case somewhere. Then again the light may be burned out but I'd hate to tear the dash apart if I don't have to. Any ideas?

if the dash light never came on, how do you know you were in 4hi?? did you hear the hubs lock?? not trying to be rude, but sometimes people don't pull the shifter hard enough to engage 4wd.

try putting the tcase in 4lo and see if the light comes on. i would also check to see if there are any fuses involved with the dash lights.

No offence taken. I originally questioned whether I was in as well. I recently got new tires which I am not entirely pleased with, their traction was lousy; so the vehicle charactistics have changed since the last time it was in 4WD. Anyway to answer your question, I know for 2 reasons: the first thing I did was to put it in low, no diffenence in the light. Secondly, just to be sure I wasn't crazy, I had a friend observe the front wheels during the lastest snowstorm. A quick clutch dump in reverse resulted in snow cascading forward a good 10 feet or so from the front wheels as they spun on my front street.
As for fuses, I see none burned, but I can't see that that one idiot light would be on a different circut that all of the others, though I could be wrong.
