Unhappy scanner woes

i have bought a canobd2 3030 . i have had 2 codes wich are cleared now. the codes were po325 and p0306. this is a 97 villager ls. when i retry the reader it reads that the first three items are ok and goes onto the following to check but with no results. just bleanking and yellow led with ?. the problems i am having right now is there are no more codes and the scanner wont go beyond the catalyst monitor, oxygen sensor monitor, oxygen heater monitor and egr monitor. those settings just keep blinking. would there be a fuse or maybe relay that may not be working.? i still have no gas guage either.

Accoording to the wiriring diagram I looked at Fuse # 29 in the istrument panel (10amp) and the engine cont fuse in the enine compartment fuse/relay panel (10 amp) go to the data link.

I assume you tried the scanner on another vehicle ?

In case you are not aware that P0325 is Knock sensor code and is set by the code P0306 which is for a miss in clyinder #6. DO NOT REPLACE KNOCK SENSOR as it very seldom fails.

Whiuch instrument cluster do you have, analog or digital??

When you changed the fuel pump did you change the complete assembly or just the fuel pump itself?

ok thank you for the info on the knock sensor. i'll check cyl, 6 and see if might be spark plug or wire. as for testing on another vehicle ...no i have not. i may go to my buddies and try it on his tommorow. as for the fuel gauge i only replaced the pump. all wires are hooked up as they were when i took the old one out, i followed the manufactures instructions and disconected the neg before attemping to take it out. replaced neg when i was finished. and still no go...? I have a digital cluster. i am now ok on these checks, for the scanner oh,m,f,cc. they all check and stay solid, the blinking ones are c,o and e they stay blinking and wont go past these ones for scan.

I take it the fuel gauge did not work before you replaced the fuel pump.
Try www.autozone.com for a wiring diagram, you will need to register to get the repair manual but it is also free. I looked at a different source for the diagrams. I do not think the fuel gauge or the fuel pump circuit has anything to do with the data link. I will look further tommorrow.

You could switch plugs on clyinder 5 and six to see if miss follows the plug.
Same with plug wire. Also listen to injector with a screwdriver to ear and listen for a clicking sound.

Have you checked with you local library online to see if they have Auto Repair Reference Center (ARRC), it is usually included with EBSCOHOST.
Send me a PM with your email address and I will try sending you the wiring diagrams.

Re: scanner woes

did you reset the ecu/ecm to clear the codes? see if the same codes do come back again... then suspect a wiring problem for the knock sensor before condemning the sensor itself to be bad

click on the link i provided:

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/quest/1997_Quest/ec.pdf

goto page EC-149 to follow directions on testing the knock sensor and the possible open circuit in the wiring {on that page you'll know that the code will not set the check engine light} but to check the wiring , electrical plug, and then the sensor...

-------------------------------------------------------

as for the fuel gauge problem, you'll need to check the power and ground circuits...may be an open in the wiring from the sending unit to various body grounds

click on the link i provided:

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/quest/1997_Quest/el.pdf

goto section EL-95 & follow the directions there

COde P0325 does noot set the cel.

What does your fuel gauge read? Empty or full alll the time???

According to the manual for a 1996, iif you get 160 ohms @ full reading of the fuel indicator module pin #4. Replace the insstrument cluster printed circuit.

What was the fix for the misfire on #6????

my guage reads full all the time..... the fix for misfire was easy. i took the connector out of the plug wire and cleaned it. then reset it back into the wire properly. cleaned the spark plug then installed everything again. worked perfect.

Re: scanner woes

oops, actually you need to follow the flowchart on page EL-96 for the fuel gauge

"C" on that page

http://www.nicoclub.com/FSM/quest/1997_Quest/el.pdf

it's acting like the plug is disconnected when you're always reading "full" all the time

did you verify if the float is moving up and down & the ohm readings change with the movement before you installed it?

ohm values are stated on EL-100 (the readings should go lower as the float arm is lower to empty)

well i know the plug is connected. no i never verified the ohms before putting the pump back in. we have been having this problem ever since someone else has touched the van. the float does move . i checked that when i put it into the tank. but never checked the ohms off it.

Re: scanner woes

Hey VA3EPR, did you ever get your fuel gauge to work right? My tachometer doesn't work right on mine but to me that's no biggy. My fuel gauge has gotta work though that would drive me crazy if it didn't. I haven't had any problems with it as of yet, and hope I don't. I was just curious as to if you got yours to work or not.
