get a tarp, sheet, or large amount of paper.....put it on the driveway, pull onto it, then in the morning you can see exactly where/if the oil leak is coming from exactly

Yo Melt....Ami pretty much said it. LOL at you wanting to swap already. My shit has been burning oil for the last 50,000 miles. My previous car took a quart every time I went to the gas station

If you are starting to get some blow-by on the rings (most common reason for oil loss while driving), one thing you can try is thicker oil. 20w50 sometimes will help reduce oil consumption. On a new Honda motor, I'd run the recommended 5w30, but on an older one (esp. one that burns) go with 20w50 and see if that helps.

As you have noted, the key is to keep a quart on hand at all times. I always buy an extra quart when I change the oil, and usually have to buy another one in between, so I figure I burn about 1 quart every 1200-1500 miles. You just need to get in the habit of checking it fairly regularly. Usually most gas stations are level, so I check mine after I fuel up, if the car is hot, the oil is thin and will run into the oil pan pretty quick...however, if I am at half-way or more, I don't add...as Ami said, it takes more than 5 minutes to get it all down in the oil pan, but if I am at minimum on the dip stick, I'll throw in a 1/2 quart or so.

I run 10w40 here in MD, since it gets pretty cold in the winter, and I dunno about that thick-ass oil when its cold. Since I already have a motor to swap, I just need to keep this one running a few more weeks (or months )

And if you have a significant leak, you should see that shit dripping all over the motor, or a big puddle under the car before you notice oil streaming off the back

Alright...well nothing new here in my book, but just confirming what everyone else already said , since every car I've owned seems to have been driven in the ground and burned oil toward the end of its life.
