So what you're saying is...when I hook up to the low side the hose and new can will prevent any gasses from escaping?

Re: R12/R134 conversion
the valve opens in the same way as when you put air in your tires. You would have to describe your kit, did it come with a fitting to screw on to your low pressure hose? and then a quick disconnect?

No quick disconnect. THe hose screwed on the fitting. I connected the hose to the can then to the fitting. Punctured the can and turned the A/C on. Nothing happened. No flow. Maybe I'm missing a part of the kit. What you're saying sounds right. I'll look for the fitting and quick disconnect. Thanks.

Re: R12/R134 conversion
when you screw in the tap that punctures the can it also seals the can closed, so then you have to unscrew the tap and the gas will be drawn in slowely, putting two cans in should take about an hour or so.

Re: R12/R134 conversion
if after the can still has gas in it, you have to keep the hose kit on the can and close the top valve before disconnecting it from the low pressure side fitting.

I bought a 134 retrofit kit yesterday to see if that would fix my problem. Followed all the instructions and the system will not take any freon. I did notice that the aux fan didn't turn on and I never heard the compressor engage. Is there a low pressure switch the shuts down the compressor? Is there a way to override it? How do I recharge my system!!!!!!

Re: R12/R134 conversion
I opened the can. I have a meter on the hose and it shows over 100lbs.
