Unhappy 2000 Surburban stalls

My 2000 Surburban stalls every so often. Can't seem to detect a pattern, other than when I'm turning the steering wheel sharply left or right. Anybody experience this?

Re: 2000 Surburban stalls

Does this happen moreso at idle or off throttle?
If so, clean the throttle body..that may help.
Intermittants are difficult to duplicate and diagnos.
Try to gather as much information as you can...the more info you give us, the easier it is to come up with a solution

HI

My 1995 Chev Suburban 6'5 diesel shuts off while driving like you turned the key off..happened twice at about 35mph just driving stright in traffic at steady speed.. you cqan shift to neutral ans restart it as you are coasting.. takes a about 10 seconds to restart. also since new the engine hic cups at high speed. like you turned the key off and on but no human could turn it off and on as fast as it hic cups.. happens once in a while. Thanks Pete

Re: 2000 Surburban stalls

Our 2000 Suburban began a rough idle when cold, ( below 70') to the point of stalling or almost stalling. We took it to a reputable service center. They found a couple of GM service bulletin's, one was the throttle body cleaning that someone suggested to you, another was a reprograming the computer for hesitation on acceleration, but we still had the rough idle until it warms up,(5 min). Then we had a SERVICE ENGINE SOON light come on & My wife got to reading in owners manual about rough idle, misfiring and stalling; the GM comment says that poor grade gasoline could be the culprit and to try a couple tank fulls of a better grade gasoline,(Chevron was recommended by the reputable sevice center). I was surprised they hadn't come up with this comment straight from the owner's manual when they were searching for bulletins relating to rough idle. Anyway we've just filled up with the first tankfull of Chevron high grade and will let you know how it turns out. P.S. Ours uses a qt. of oil every 1,500- 2,000 miles, there was also a bulletin from GM about that, a restricted PVC valve was their $30 answer to that; we haven't installed it yet.

Have you had the codes pulled?

The codes were "lean on both banks" and " random misfire".

Re: Re: Re: Re: 2000 Surburban stalls

With a rough idle and a SES light with lean codes and random misfires, I would start leaning towards a vacum leak around the intake.
Changing fuel won't fix that problem.

Thanks for the advice. I also have my doubts about a "fuel quality 'fix' ". Right out of highschool I worked at a garage. My boss used to detect intake manifold leaks by filling an oil squirt can w/gasoline & would squirt it around the manifold until the engine smoothed out. Is there a safer way to detect this type of leak today? A vacume guage?

Some kind of spray choke cleaner is good.

Merlin,
I had this same problem, it idles rough and died when the wheel was turned sharp. I took it to several people who couldnt find anything. Finally I took it to a Chevy dealer, he told me it was carbon build ups in the fuel system, I thought he was crazy. Well I let them clean my fuel system and it hasnt given me a problem since. Hope this helps.

Re: 2000 Surburban stalls

I have a 2000 with 60k miles on it. Stalls when we come to a stop. Happened around 45k miles and g service cleaned the fuel system with no result. They then re-set the computer. that worked for 15k miles and now we have the same problem. Is there a way other than unhooking the battery to 're-set' the computer?
