cd changer 1995 740i

i am having difficulty determining the exact cd changer needed for my daughter's 1995 740i. the original was removed by a previous owner. i would like to find a good used cd changer, but the ones i see advertised, both used and new, do not seem to include the 1995 model.

why?

can any one give me specific information?

what is DSP?

in advance, thanks for your help.

richard

I have a copy of BMW's ETK, their electronics parts catalog. For a 1995 740i it asked some questions that I could only guess at, such as, M60 or M62 engine, month of production, automatic or manual transmission, and a few others. Anyway, with my guesses it lists the following BMW part numbers:

65 12 8 361 663 for the CD player
65 12 8 355 885 for the CD Cartridge

If you could provide the last 7 characters of the VIN I can verify these for you. It should be similar to "DE85083", which is the last 7 for my '93 740iL.

Well, hmmmmm. That VIN number maps OK to a 1995 740iL. However, the CD information does in fact map differently than what I gave you before. Info for VIN ending in dh06914 is as follows:

32 11 1 468 762 is the BMW part number for an Alpine CD changer with cover.

32 11 1 468 761 is the BMW part number for a Pioneer CD changer with cover.

It lists the same CD cartridge that I gave you before.

The little diagram that goes with it indicates that these parts go up front, in the dash or in the glove box perhaps. On my '93, the CD player goes in the trunk. So, ????? If you buy a new unit, from bavauto.com for example, I'm sure they'll help you get the right one, but I'd suggest you call your local BMW parts department to verify this data before you buy a used unit. Hope this helps.

Re: cd changer 1995 740i

i spoke to a dealer. after much searching, he gave me 2 part no's. however, he sounded a little uncertain. the no's are:
65-12-8-361-058, and
65-12-8-361-663.
do either or both of these numbers come up in your reference data. thanks again, richard

They do indeed. The one ending in -663 is the one I gave you originally. The one ending in -058 maps to the same page, the same CD player. On that particular page, there is no BMW part number but when I start with a part number it sends me to that page. My guess is that one of these units is manufactured by Alpine and the other by Pioneer and that either one will work. Glad I could help, Tom.

P.S. There's some bracket parts and wiring you may need as well if the previous owner removed those.

cd changer 1995 740i

update: FYI

the cd changer part no ending in .....058 is a Pioneer, and is to be used with the 1995 through august 1998 740i with DSP, as I have.

the cd changer part no ending in .....663 is, as best i can determine, an Alpine, as you suspected, for the same cars, but without DSP.

it took me a lot of research, as even the dealer parts dept did not remember the DSP inthe 1995; that is until they looked hard at their parts books.

again, thanks for your assistance.
