Rust problem?!?

I was doing some spring cleaning on my 2001 LX a few days ago. While wiping down the weather stripping around the rear hatch, I noticed a small amount of bubbled paint, flaking and rust under the hatch where the door skin is crimped around the door body! Rather perturbed at this point, I started to check all of the doors . Both sliders have the same issue! Luckily both the driver's and passenger front doors are fine. This seems odd to me because I have NEVER seen a rusty windstar & I live in one of the "rustiest" places around- Buffalo, NY. I just bought this van a few months ago & it's only got 36000mi (was a lease return from Canada). It's a great van. It’s not even 3yrs old per the door- jamb sticker's manufacture date of July 2001. Has anyone had a similar problem? Has anyone dealt with ford on a "corrosion warranty" issue? My manual states the van has a 60month/unlimited mile corrosion warranty, but FWIU, those warranties are pretty much useless.
Thanks
Joel

**UPDATE** Ford would not pay 100% to fix it since I was at 36600mi when I reported the issue. Paint issues & surface rust warranty is only good for 3/36, holes in body panels due to design flaws are covered for 5yrs/unlimited miles They didn't balk at all at a 50/50 split & I bet with more work on my part, they would have gone a bit higher. Picked the van up the other night- They had it 3 days. It looks like they did a pretty good job. They cleaned up the door bottoms, used an OEM type of seam sealer on them and then repainted over the top. The job comes with a 12mo/12K mile warranty. Total cost to me was $270.63, which bites seeing as I just bought the van two months ago. Out of warranty = out of luck (mostly anyway) It really is odd this happend as the underneath & everywhere else on the van is spotless having lived through 3 winters worth of rock salt so far. I would have never noticed the underside of the doors had I not looked closely, especailly on the sliders! I guess the moral of the story is- try to catch any rust or paint issues by 3yrs/36K miles, as ford should cover it 100% for you. If you are over a bit, stay calm with them & they should atleast do a 50/50 split with you without much difficulty.
G/luck!
Joel
