Questions on connecting turbo to hood scoop.

Hi,

If you wanted to use hood scoops, you basically wouldn't have a CAI and would directly pipe from the hood scoop to the intake of the turbo correct (with a grill on the scoop and a filter somewhere in the pipe)?

Also if thats what you do, how would you prevent water from getting into your engine since if its raining, the rain would go into the scoop down the intake into your turbo.

Re: Questions on connecting turbo to hood scoop.

The only example I can think of is Chuck Samuels race car, he uses a sheetmetal box to force air from a scoop into the turbo. Key word here being RACE CAR.

Re: Questions on connecting turbo to hood scoop.

The mach 1 is a good example of a car using a hoodscoop. They have a water drain around their scoop that keeps to much water from going into the motor.

The hood scoop is only fuctional at higher speeds, the air is mostly from the traditional intake.

Re: Questions on connecting turbo to hood scoop.

Typically all hood scoops are non-functional at high speeds. You would think that since they point forward they would intake more air, but that is not the case.

Re: Questions on connecting turbo to hood scoop.

Is it true that extended cowls (large cowl induction hood that extends past the window cowl and closer to the windsheild) are functional at higher speeds? I was told that they helped to create some sort of vacuum that sucked air down into the cowl at higher speeds.

You tell me? Look at the flow vectors, and let me know what you think.

The blue is a low, yes. But if you have air being forced into the engine compartmant, that will be a high. That will help the air inside the engine compartment even more to escape out the cowl hood. There is high pressure above that low on the cowl, but it has velocity, and I do not think its going to make a right turn to get inside of the engine compartment. That is the way I look at it.

Re: Questions on connecting turbo to hood scoop.

Because I am American

I grew up in Phoenix, joined the USAF. Now I am stationed in England, but I am a duel citizen, because my mum is British.

I hope to stay, but that is in the air, since it depends on if my wife can find a job at a law firm or not. She has just passed the Bar here, and is waiting to here back from a couple of firms in London.

Do you have any question about Skylines, feel free to ask. Other than the importing, because that is up in the air right now. Sean is working on it, but we will see.
