Porsche 964 C2 Fujimi Widebody
Hi guys,
This is the 4th model I've ever built, but it's my first serious attempt at body modifications. The first three had special wheels and were dropped, but that was pretty much it. They were all gifts to my friends, I don't think I still have pictures of them. I bought a batch of models for Xmas to lat me through 2011 and decided to start with the Fujimi 964. I've also bought some "Porsche Type Oz Wheels", no idea which actual Oz wheels are though... First though when I got them out of the packaging: these are going to be a tight fit. Boy, was I wrong ![]() I used some arches from a body kit, some Tamiya epoxy to fit them and then added some basic putty to fill in the gaps and sand down everything. I'm still new at this so I avoided building from scratch as getting the wheel archer perfectly symmetrical would have been a pain. Hopefully my skills will improve and I'll get this to look good at the end. I'm also glad that this kit gets rid of the only thing I don't like about 964s: the wheel cutout. The added kit is nice and round and brings that tight stance that is so popular today ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() After I finish up with the wheel arches, I'll add a duck-tail. The interior will bring another first for me: a scratch built rollcage. That ugly steering wheel will have to go and be replaced by a nicer 993 GT2 3 spoke wheel. For paint, I'm going to try using something crazy, like a dark flat purple. Not really sure yet... |

Re: Porsche 964 C2 Fujimi Widebody
A bit of an update:
First off, I decided the interior will be stripped. The rear seats are gone and will be replaced by styrene. I'm going to remove the upholstery from the door panels. ![]() I've finished the fenders as far as the general shape is concerned. There's still a lot more work to be done to smooth them though. I've also removed the side blinkers, and filled in the license plate cutouts in the bumpers. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() If you're wondering about that rear strip of epoxy, that is the base for the ducktail. It will be classic in shape, but it will have different proportions from a regular ducktail. I'm going to make it shorter, about two times the current height of that piece of epoxy. |

Re: Porsche 964 C2 Fujimi Widebody
Spent the week sanding this model and working on another project: a slammed Miata.
Speaking of slammed, here's the front suspension on the Porsche. I've shortened the shock struts by about 2mm and then shaved about 1mm off the little spacers between the chassis and the front suspension piece. As the steering uses the shocks as a pivot point, I drilled them and ran a some bald needles through them to give them extra strength. ![]() I finally decided to spray it with primer to better see the surface imperfections. The fact that I used different types of putties wasn't such a good idea, I got some cracks in the rear fenders ![]() Second bad news is that I ran out of primer after the first light coat ![]() Damn it, it's a Saturday and it's snowing outside, I have to wait till next week to get another can ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Re: Porsche 964 C2 Fujimi Widebody
A quick edit on the interior also:
-Tamiya Porsche GT2 street steering wheel. -Custom rollcage. Seems to be too thick atm ![]() -I've cut out the rear seats and filled them in with styrene sheets. I've also filled in the upholstery on the door panels. ![]() ![]() ![]() Next: more sanding ![]() |

Re: Porsche 964 C2 Fujimi Widebody
That rollbar is really thick indeed.
Perhaps this information will help - the tubes used in 1:1 rollcages are something like 38 mm to 45 mm (for the main hoop) in diameter so you can base yours on those dimensions.

Re: Porsche 964 C2 Fujimi Widebody
The current rollcage is 3mm thick which would translate into 72mm in real life. Waaay too much
![]() I'll get some 2mm styrene tubes and rebuild it. |

Re: Porsche 964 C2 Fujimi Widebody
Here's more polishing work!
I've also deleted the grill in the front and added a lip. I felt the amount of changes to the front end were disproportionate to the rear. Also, the front bumper was about 2mm higher than the sideskirts so it definitely needed an extension. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sanded the interior a bit more. Actually, I sanded the rear area so much the styrene broke ![]() I simplified the area a bit and rebuilt it from one single piece instead of 3. This should make it harder to break and easier to finish as there are no more spaces to fill between the pieces ![]() ![]() |

Re: Porsche 964 C2 Fujimi Widebody
Thanks for the kind words. Didn't have too much free time this week, so not much progress.
I did manage to fill in the front bumper (not done yet) and replace the plastic rollcage with one made of 2.5 mm solder wire. ![]() ![]() ![]() |
