Anti-Pesto Van - quickie :)

This is something that I started cooking up on Saturday as a bit of a fun interlude while I am waiting on some parts.

It is the Airfix 1/12 kit of the Wallace and Grommit "Anti-Pesto" van from the movie "Curse of the Were-Rabbit". It will be strictly OOB although this kit has some serious potential for detailing!

Saturday was spent cleaning parts and priming. Sunday was spent on painting it with a custom mix of Vallejo Acrylics after some pre-shading and then post-shading. I brushed some future polish over it before applying the decals.

Next will be to seal the decals in place and then begin some weathering ec.

Cheers

Great stuff, I have a bit of a soft spot for Aardman animations stuff, just a couple of miles away from me. I'm looking forward to seeing how you do the rust now that I seam to have gone 'weathering mad'.

Good luck with it.

Lee.

Cool project!
A very expensive kit (at least in the US) at about $80.

Great potential here Klutzy and great start! Are you using all weathering your tricks like salt under the paint, or just building up the color/texture, etc?

What a cool kit. I know your weathering will knock all our socks off. Always top notch and very realistic.

Re: Anti-Pesto Van - quickie :)

I have gotten the pesky figures out of the way. Took over a week of cleaning mold lines and puttying joins. Gromit was the worst - he was split in two with a joining gap the size of the Grand canyon! :o

These were painted entirely by airbrush and I used them as testing ground for pre- and post-shading techniques.

Great job!
figures always are a make or break piece for models like this.

Re: Anti-Pesto Van - quickie :)

This was interesting – my best Alclad chrome effect EVER. Period.

The base is clear red acrylic?!?!?!?

The roof light was a clear plastic part which I first painted with clear red and then masked off the dome before applying the Alclad straight onto the clear.

One of the reasons for the good effect is without doubt the ultra glossy and smooth finish that these coloured clears give but I am surprised that the lacquer based Alclad didn’t dissolve it (I was half expecting it to TBH hehe)

Same story with the smaller side lights…

Several people have asked me how large the figures are. These shots should give you some idea (please assume that I have “normal” sized hands )

Re: Anti-Pesto Van - quickie :)

Thats so cool klutz! The shading on the figures turned out really nice. Did you use acrylics on the figures?

PS I miss all those older kits with figures.

Re: Anti-Pesto Van - quickie :)

The roof light is amazing. Only you could transform a mere piece of plastic into a beautiful christmas tree, (or realistic roof light). The base really looks like metal. Oddly, I'm not surprised it looks so good.
