Smile Castrol Celica ST185 1993 Monte Carlo Rally

Here’s the legendary Castrol ST185 from the 1993 WRC season, completed at the same time as the Focus. It’s mainly box stock again, with the addition of seatbelts and valve stems. Onto the pics:

Together with the Carlo Sainz’s 1992 car I built last year:

Thanks for looking.

Cheers,

Nam

Re: Castrol Celica ST185 1993 Monte Carlo Rally

Thanks for everyone's comments!

ben_gsr2s: Yup I had quite a bit of problem with the Castrol Celica's decals as they are quite hard / brittle, so I need to use a lot of decal softener to allow the decals to conform to the curvaceous surfaces. Some of the most problematic areas are the roof, the two vents on the side of the hood and the side mouldings of the two doors.

As for the panel lines, I used Tamiya's enamel paint (german gray on the 92 model, sky gray on the 93 model) thinned with enamel thinner.

Brilliant result, they look great together. What process did you use when laquering the decals? e.g. - Did you do lots of mist coats?

Why do Tamiya decals have that annoying issue where some white ones stay white and some go yellowey, e.g. - the door number backgrounds? I've got loads of Tamiya kits with this issue.

Your excellent finish makes me want to start my one!

Re: Castrol Celica ST185 1993 Monte Carlo Rally

birbertha: Thanks! Actually for sealing the decals I used two mist coats followed by two thick coats of clear.

My leftover Castrol decal sheet from my 1992 car completed last year is even "yellower" than the number decals on the 1993 car! This is indeed very annoying.
