I have a 2005 Chevy Aveo, 5 door, LT with about 80,000 miles on it. To give you a brief history.....when it was about 15,000 miles, they replaced the engine gaskets on a recall due to them being over-machined during production. I was involved in an accident not too long after that, and there was some unibody damage, but the car was practically brand new and they were only going to give me 7500 for it, so I made them fix it. I have also had the transmission replaced due to a tow company improperly towing the car.
For over a year now, I have both the parking brake light and the ABS brake light on. I have had the front brakes done since then, and there are still light issues. I dont know why this would be. I have had someone look at it, and they don't know why either. The brakes are good, and there is no electrical issue with the warning lights. Also, just recently, I aquired a thumping noise when going over bumps. It also produces a faint chirping noise. The tires are very shakey in the back end (where all of this is happeneing). I had a mechanic look at it briefly, and he is not sure by looking at it. He would have to start really taking everything apart to figure it out. I was wondering if anyone had these problems, and knows what it may be..... |

Re: Mutiple Issues (Noises, Lights)
Hi, I own a 2004 Aveo and I can relate to the noises in the rear of the car. Mine's been doing this for a couple of months. The lady that was giving my son his driving license exam almost stopped it because of this noise. Since I do the majority of my own repairs, I checked out the back end and all I could see was the arms that connect the axle, if you want to call it that, to the unibody were very close to one side of the mounting bracket. I think when it goes over a bump, the arm is contacting the bracket. It has a rubber bushing within the arm and a bolt through that and the arm is nearly hitting the bracket. I think I'll replace the bushings and see what that nets me. The bushings are only about $5.00 each online. Other than that, I can't seem to figure this one out and I've been all over this thing.
As far as the parking light, I'd check the switch, which I assume would be somehow connected with the handle, to let you know its pulled up. The ABS most likely is a speed sensor which again I would assume is incorporated into the wheel bearing (hub), as most cars are. Go to a reputable shop and have a brake scan done to find out for sure. Like most car problems, it does have a logical solution. You just need to figure it out. Toni. |

Re: Mutiple Issues (Noises, Lights)
Welcome to the Forum!
The brake light icon above the steering column could be coming on because: 1. The hand brake cable under the console needs to be adjusted 2. The brake adjustment at the wheel may be too tight. The noise in your rear end could be a bearing failure. Have it looked at. Last edited by Davescort97; 07-03-2010 at 11:14 AM. |
