Power steering pump speed
I am trying to adapt the power steering pump from my '88 300zx to work on an '02 5.3L Chevy v8 for an engine swap project. The alternator pulley from the Z has the same belt ribbing as the a/c belt for the 5.3. If I use this setup, the steering pump will be in a constant state of overdrive compared to its original application (not sure of how much without taking some measurements). Will there be any negative effect on the steering rack by overdriving the pump? I realize that the pump itself will suffer from a shorter life, but as long as the rack isn't affected, I can live with it.

Compare the original engine's RPM range to the 5.3. If the 5.3's RPM range is slower, you should be fine. Also check what other engines that pump was used on with what pulleys. Basically find the fastest pump RPM application that Nissan used for that pump, then compare it to the RPMs it will see on the 5.3. Its also possible to buy an underdrive pulley for the 5.3 to slow it down.
