1999 Alero Stalling
Hi - I have a 1999 Alero, The check engine light came on about 2 weeks ago. After I continued driving it started to stall when the RPM came below 1000.
Checking under the hood I found that disconnecting the PCV valve from the suction allowed the engine to idle ok. I replaced the PCV Valve started the car and it stalled. I am at a loss on what could be causing this Please Help!!! Thanks |

Re: 1999 Alero Stalling
Welcome to AF !!
What engine and how many miles on your Alero ? You'll need to get the the car scanned to see why the check engine light is on. Once you have the trouble code its a lot easier to narrow your troubles down. Typicaly when you're experiancing stalling, thier are several things that might be the cause; The Idle air control vavle- IAC Clogged fuel filter(and or contaminated fuel) Something bad in the ignition system wires or components(coils/ignition control module-ICM) Bad plugs/wires(v6), or a bad vacum leak. Id start by getting the code then looking for vacum leaks. Thier should be a diagram under the hood for the vacum lines. Its quiet possible you had a misfire and popped off a hose somewhere. Hope that helps.

Re: 1999 Alero Stalling
Hey - Thanks for the welcome and reply! It is a 3.4l V6. i replaced the plugs and wires about 10000km ago, the car it self however has over 340,000km. Still runs great and has been well looked after. I try doing most of the work myself but as you can see I don't no much in the engine department. I also replaced the fuel filter the same time as the plugs. She is always filled with shell gas, as personally I find it runs better. Im just having trouble understanding why it runs great with the PCV valve disconnected, and getting some one to pull the code here is not cheep. We just had it done on the girlfriends grand am gt and the guy charged $80, didn't tell me the price untill he was done.
Thanks |
