Revell F2007
So here is a quick build from me, a Revell F2007. I work in a model shop and the previous model I built for the window display suffered some damage after it was dropped when we were putting christmas decorations up, so the boss said I could take a new kit for free. We get Revell kits free from the rep if we build them as a "shop display" so I decided to go for the F2007 and see if Revell have improved at all since my last build of theirs (I can't remember what it was but the fit was dreadful...). I'm still working on my RB4 so I want to get this finished as quickly as possible and thus I'm not too worried about it being 100% accurate.
So I've had the kit for two days and I've opened up the airbox with a dremel, sanded the moulded seat belts off and replaced them with Studio 27 belts, fitted various bits onto the body and primed it (I've fitted the mirrors and the two winglets in front of the cockpit since the picture below was taken) and I've started spraying the suspension parts. The engine is also together but seeing as this is a curbside all I've done it spray it silver. Not sure what to do about the front suspension yet but I think I might cut it in half. As usual, the CF decal from Revell is superb and it went on a charm! (Only done the cockpit so far though, not tackled the suspension yet). Dare I say it, but this kit has actually been really fun so far! ![]() ![]() |

Re: Revell F2007
I agree, man that would be dangerous for me. If I owned a model shop I wouldnt be selling any models.
Great work so far, hope the boss lets you keep it when you leave. Ive heard there where fit issues with the McLaren by Revell and have been hesitant to buy the F2007 for the fear of fit issues. |

Re: Revell F2007
Another update...
I've glued the mirrors and nose fins in place and sprayed the body with TS-21. Also primed the wings and the aero pieces for the sidepods. I've also decaled the suspension. I don't have time to do anything fancy (hoping for a build time of two weeks so I can get it in the window and carry on with the RB4) so I've just used the Revell CF decal. It went on nicely but it doesn't quite wrap all the way around the suspension arms. Still, better than plain black! Now, as you guys may know, Revell give you options for the US, British and Brazilian GPs. Initially I wanted to make it up to be the Brazilian version but the sidepod winglets would be wrong so it's going to be Kimi's car from Silverstone. The bump on the nose will still be wrong (it wasn't there in Britain) but like I say, I haven't got time to worry about it being 100% accurate. Here are some pictures: ![]() |

Re: Revell F2007
Just finished this kit last weekend myself.
A little tip I found is that if you put the head support in before you glue it to the seat it goes in much better. I had to repaint mine because it got scratched while still attached to the seat trying to get it in place. Chris |

Re: Revell F2007
Last update of the week...
Finished the rear suspension and engine and dry fitted to the floor (which has also been finished and decaled - other than the wooden plank anyway which will be brush painted at a later stage). I've run out of grey primer so going to pick some up tomorrow. More updates coming on Monday ![]() |

Re: Revell F2007
Quite disappointed with how the red has turned out. It's a shame it wasn't really "metallic" enough because it's a really nice finish. Anyway, the worst part is I don't really have time to change it if I want it finished by the weekend so it has to stay like this. When I get around to doing a full Marlboro version I'll get the paint spot on. So I've started putting the decals on. They all went on ok actually. The barcode on the nose needed some microsol but otherwise it was all fine. Please note that the picture doesn't really show the red that well, it's a lot darker than that, just not dark enough...more tomorrow...

Re: Revell F2007
I´m sorry for my stupid question, but you sprayed clear red over gold and that was the result? Judging by the photo, you took TS-8 or TS-49 instead?

Re: Revell F2007
Like I said, I couldn't get a photo that would show the colour properly. I'll take one in daylight tomorrow. It's a long way off from the metallic red they used but it's slightly darker than they used before Monaco. Bit annoyed about it really but hopefully after a clear coat it won't be too bad...besides, it's going to be sitting in a shop window, I'm not too bothered by it. When I get around to building one in full Marlboro livery I'll work harder to make the model accurate.
I didn't have any clear red to hand and I won't be back at work until Saturday so I had to go for a can of Humrol paint I had lying around. I had no idea what the result would be before I sprayed it though... |

Re: Revell F2007
I had tested the method of using several red paint from Tamiya, but none comes out correct too. The closest will be TS-8 or MIca Red over Silver Leaf or aluminum. THe actual car itself isnt that metallic actually, even for the late seaon cars. I guess i will get the paint from Hiroboy for better accuracy.
Anyway good job for what you have done! Waiting to see the finished one! Ro

Re: Revell F2007
The cars are basically Candy Apple Red now. You should use Clear Read over a metallic base and put enough coats on to get it dark enough.
