Seat Belts.
Who knows the best way to make seat belts??
I have been buying ones from my model shop all made up, but when i went in today to buy some they had gone up nearly 60% in price. Time to work out how to make some. Ideas guys ????

Hmmm, that could be a toughy. Some suggestions:
Wider than the usual, rubber bands(1/8th of an inch). Cut them to length and paint them black. That will also help stiffen them up and maybe mold to shape. Strips of leather. You can buy some scrap or get some scraps of leather and cut it basically however you want. Or maybe even using silver masking tape. Cut the desired size for the belt and then fold it over once. Benefit to that would be that is would be a little stiffer and once painted, could look realistic. Can't think of anything else. Hope that helps out a little.

I tried to make some out of some plastic weaving strips. I'm not sure any of you will even know what this stuff is. It's main use it to weave giant colorful keychains at kids' summer camps. Anyway, it worked like crap. No glue I had would stick to it.
 I'll have to buy aftermarket sets, too. BTW, has anyone seen, or better yet have pictures, of a model with a 3-point belt attached to the B-pillar? That would be cool.  |

None of the sets at my model store have belts. They just sell the photo etched buckles and clips. What am I supposed to use for the webbing?

You guys have no imagination.
You can use: Tinfoil, Folded and pressed till its the right thickness, and then pressed to remove creases. Lead foil, avliable from some Hobby shops, or a plumber, Or even better the top of a champain bottle. Very thin strips of card, softened in water, shaped then let dry. Insulation from around 240V house wiring. (the flat retangular stuff)

I have seen seat belt material at my hobby shop, i cant remember what brand it was though. I'll take a look when i get a chance!

I found this on some web site.
"This can be done two ways and used for many things. To make Belts, blower covers, spare tire covers, even boots and tops, use tissue paper or a paper tower without the quilting. If you are making seat belts, paint the tissue paper with acrylic paint and let it dry. Once dry, it will be pretty durable and can be bent to make natural looking folds. When making a cover for something, get either tissue paper or an unquilted paper towel. Cut the paper to a reasonable size then soak it in a deluted Elmers glue solution (Thin down with water). Then place the paper and mold it over the part and let dry 'till hard. Once it's dry, remove, clean the part molded and paint the paper form. Once the paints dry you have a cover that will fit perfectly over the." I just cut and paste.

If you are just looking for something to make the actual straps, paper coffee filters cut into the appropriate widths makes a good strap, then just use your marker to color them in.
As for the buckles.....I don't know, I just use P/E ones myself and am happy to do so.... Ray
