Ferrari 612 convertible
Below is a project that I started over 2 years ago. I picked the project back up and have made some good progress on it.
In the beginning I thought a soft-top look would be fitting, but after it was on the car, I didn't like it. Too big of a car for a soft-top convertible. ![]() So i decided to make the cover flush and solid similar to what you'd see on a Mercedes. ![]() After some scratch building, and putty sanding I had a part a little more fitting ![]() I attached some 'L' shaped styrene to the inside of the body to hold my new cover in place. I snipped it on the bottom to help it curve to the body. ![]() The absense of glass left a noticeable gap between the interior tub and the body. So I added some strip styrene to the body to fill that gap. ![]() The mirrors attach to the side glass, which I had to cut as I'm not placing the side windows on. It was glued to the body, ready for mirrors ![]() I will be using 20" wheels on this car, and the ride height needed to be adjusted a bit. An easy solution was to glue some styrene to the back of a resin brake disk, and remove the mounting pins on the spindles/hubs. they can be glued on very easily this way, at any height I choose. ![]() ![]() ![]() These are not the wheels I will be using, but they will be 20" as these are ![]() I am planning a two-tone paint scheme on this car similar to the 60th Anniversary 612.

Re: Ferrari 612 convertible
ah, this is something new. well i never thought of that!
very thoughtful of you to choose the 'metal-top' rather than the 'rag-top', yes it does look high-tech enough for a ferrari! just a word of thought on your hardtop, some logic mod-ding advice. i believe you've seen BMW 3 series on the roads. did you notice the 2 rear seats on the cabrio are much more closer together than the normal coupe? in fact, all metal-top cars has to incorporate this design. why? it's because the rear seats have to make space for the 'mechanical arm' along the seat sides so that the mechanism can stretch the roof all the way to the A pillar. since the 612 is a very long car, at 2950mm wheelbase...it needs a very long 'arm' & roof to cover all the top of it (i mean just imagine). to make this mod are near realistic one, you have to trim the rear seats to make some room at the seat sides for that 'mechanical arm' storage. say, how about a GG50 conversion later!?!? cheers & keep posting!

Re: Ferrari 612 convertible
Looks great as a rag top! I think the length adds greatly to the effect.

Re: Ferrari 612 convertible
Very nice design and superb transformation. I can't say I love those rims, but I guess is ever better a big ugly rim than a decent small one

Re: Ferrari 612 convertible
Sprayed the body tonight. I chose Mica Red over Metallic black. It'll get some clear soon. Overall I'm happy with the look.

Re: Ferrari 612 convertible
Cool.
I was looking at this thread yesterday. I almost posted a ?,whaterver happened to this. But, i know like most builders you'd get back to it when you got back to it. I'm glad it's sooner rather than later.

Re: Ferrari 612 convertible
Looks good, though I think the two-tone paint on the rear fenders/trunk lid could be better integrated. I would have ran the two-tone line along the top of the spoiler, rather than painting red all the way down trunk lid.
