Hobby knife?

I know this sounds like a stupid question, but isn't a hobby knife the same as an exacto(sp is way off) knife? Or am I wrong? Also I have seen some people say hobby knifes... why would you need more than a simple exacto knife? Thanks for clearing this up.

Yes there is the Company Exacto which makes hobby knives and tools but it's become the generic term for similar knives made by other companies.

But when people have different knives, what are the different types other than a generic exacto knife? Thanks.

We're probably talking about the different shaped blades that we fit into the x-acto knives, like a curved one for example, which also go by different numbere, for example the regular straight sharp blade most often used is called #11.

well some people dont use the word X-acto blade because like some of you mentioned X-acto is a name of a company. so other manufacturers cant called them X-acto blades too, its just like Vise Grips, Allen Wrench, and Channel Lock. theyre all company names, so other manufacturers have to use names like locking pliers, hex wrenches, and plier wrench.
