Found the limit for stereo play today!

At approximately 3 hours while out working on my project bumper, the stereo turned itself off and the truck wouldn't start. Luckily. after waiting about 10 minutes there was just enough juice for her to turn over and fire. Guess I better start seriously thinking about that Optima!

Just thought I'd share that since hardly anyone else has said anything in the past day!

Speaking of which, I saw Optima red tops on sale at GI Joes for $99 in their Seattle Times flyer.

Chuck-

I've been meaning to ask - you have one or two amps in your X right? So your stock battery went dead after three hours of running your CD player and at least one amp?

Thanks for posting this. I've always wondered how long a stock battery will last. I've been starting my rig every 60-90 minute....I guess I can wait a lot longer.

Yeah, I have two small amps totalling about 240 watts (30-40 amps, I think). I think it was about 3 hours, but it may have been a little more. I didn't have the volume up too loud. I've had the DVD player in there and watched BRaveheart (long movie!) before with no problem. My battery is probably getting weaker though with all the recharging because of the stereo, lights, etc.

It's really not a good idea to continuously drain your battery, so I wouldn't run your stereo for 3 hours just because you can unless you get an Optima Yellow top or soemthing. I only did it because I lost track of time.

Schlud and I were talking about how nice it would be to have a voltmeter so we could keep an eye on battery drainage. i wonder how hard it is to add one?

I added a volt meter to my rig a couple weeks ago. I just tapped it into the 12v outlet and the cig. outlet. My 12v outlets are by-passed so they are hot all the time. I know I should've ran the wires to the battery or atleast the fuse box. I connected the wires for the back light to the cig. outlet and the actual gauge wires to the 12v outlet. Works great and it's always on(except the light). I'll post a pic of it later.

Question

Mike

What do you want to know about voltmeters?

Try here
http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...rchType%3DBoth

Should cost around 40 bucks unless you buy a pod for the voltmeter to mount it to the a-piller.

Do you have dual batteries? I can't remember. If you do, have Coolerman set up a relay system so you can flip a switch to either battery.

David

Put a post on MAXC, and we can talk about this tomorrow...... sucka:bonghitte

voltmeter

Here's a pic of my volt meter. They didn't have any in black at the time of purchase so I had to get chrome. Cost was less than $15.

The instructions that came with mine said to just basicly hook it up to any hot wire. I like mine to be hot all the time so I can tell what the voltage is when the truck is turned off or I'm just running my back-up lights as "work" lights. The gauge drops back to almost 10v when cranking and is anywhere between 12.5v to 15v with the engine running.

Hey I didn't make the guy do anything ... he wanted to spend half an evening wiring up stuff for me, GREAT! Kirk was the one who conned him into buying a tranny cooler and having him install it.
