Recalibrate speedometer

Has anyone ever had their speedometer recalibrated?
I have considered going with a slightly smaller tire diameter, but that would effect my speedometer by about 3 mph when cruising at 70 mph. I know it's not a lot, but I am curious what it would cost to have it recalibrated? Anyone done this?

Sure, it's possible. But chances are your local dealership will send you to some outside vendor to do it. I called three dealerships and all of them referred me to someone else. As for why, none of them would say.

I only got a quote from one place here in San Antonio for about $500 . The other place hasn't called me back yet. I found those two shops under "speedometers" in the Yellow Pages. You also might try your local NTB, Discount Tire or some aftermarket wheel and tire dealer. If they don't know, you might have to do some leg work to find someplace in your town that can recalibrate the speedometer for a more realistic price. ($500 @#$%&*!?! Geez!!)
What size tire are you gonna put on?

I'm not looking at anything drastic, I am currently running 205/50-16's which are an exact fit for my 95. Later P10's had 195/65-14's as OEM. Early P10's had 195/60-14's as OEM. I am looking to run 205/45-16's which would throw the speedo off by about 3mph when crusing @ 70mph. Not a lot, but I would much rather have it calibrated correctly if the price is not as ridiculous as $500.

Go a stereo shop to do it. I thought it should be about 100 dollars to recalibrate it.

I know what you mean. I have 205/55-15 on my '95 G20 and after hearing a $500 quote I figured why bother. My speedometer is only off by .5% which would be about 69.70 mph instead of 70 mph, or something like that.

$100? Any stereo shop can do this? Or do I need to look for a certain place(Circuit City, Best Buy, etc.)?

Well, when I was installing my white gauges, some guy was like, "well, be carefull with the needle, because if you mess up the calibration, it'll cost about $100 to re calibrate it. I don't think places like circuit city or best buy could do it. Try an actual stereo shop.
