Any tips for converting a Tamiya Testarossa into a Keonig Competition Evo lookalike?

Thinking of doing the project in the title of this thread, any tips from the experts? Anybody has done it or done the Keonig Competition Evolution replica?

Any tips, on modifying (adding width to) wheel fenders, modyfing hood and boot cowls, recessed headlights etc...?

Most importantly, how to do a bumper conversion?

Maybe use the Fujimi Koenig Testarossa kit for the body parts ?
'should save a lot of work...

Is the Keonig kit still readily available or is it getting a little rare now??

Reason I ask is my local model shop has a pretty poor choice, modellings not too popular over here, but they have one in stock that I seriously consider buying everytime I go in there but keep putting it off.

Nope, too expensive. And if i combine both kits together, there would be a lot of waste leftover. Might as well build the Fujimi kit box stock, save a lot more work and headache.

Fujimi's Koenig Testarossa is readily available, and some are available on auction for less than the retail. It's not produced throughout the year, but not out of production unlike other Fujimi Ferrari kits, because it's Koenig, not Ferrari.
Besides, how Evo different from standard Koenig TR?

Easy for u to say readily available. U r in JAPAN. I m in Singapore. Modelling is not a very common hobby here. Fujimi kits are rare here, as well as Aoshima, and very expensive. The most common brand here is Tamiya, followed by Hasegawa, Italeri, Academy and US brands.
Anyway, i don't really like to buy Fujimi or Hasegawa kits, cause there is no indication whether the kits have engine detail or not (all description in Japanese ), while Tamiya kits with engine are easily recognisable with a picture of the model with the engine on the box. US brands are a no no (except Revell), lousy moulding, unrealistic brakes etc...

Well, you have your answer to your original question: its not likely anybody did convert a Tamiya Testarossa kit into a Koenig, because there already is a Fujimi Koenig Testarossa kit.

The Fujimi TR kit is kerbside with a one-piece engine top (just like their F40 kits), the Monogram TR kits have full engine details and are much better than you think.

As for headaches, I'd get more of a headache from converting the Tamiya TR body into a Koenig one than from cross-kitting a Fujimi and a Tamiya TR kit. When mixing A Fujimi and a Tamiya TR, you should end up with enough parts to build another TR model (albeit a kerbside one).

Fujimi stuff is not that rare in Singapore, just limited to a few shops. Hobby Point always has a ton of them, and they dropped the price a bit recently because Tai Sing is also bringing them in. Just went to the Tai Sing warehouse the other day. They've got the Fujimi Tuning Evo series piled from floor to ceiling.

Anyway Hiroaki did a buildup of the Koenig testarossa previously. Very nice stuff. He used the Tamiya engine on it.

BTW it would be nice to be a little more polite than

Not really, these days, thanks to Hobby Link Japan, Rainbow Ten or Hobby Search. Those places sell kits in Japanese yen, and generally, int. shipping comes cheaper than the local distributor's markups, especially when buying multiple kits.

There's always AutomotiveForums for you.
Just ask, and someone, (if not me) should have build or own an unbuilt kit. Even if the question is something so common like, "Which Skyline has the engine details?", don't hesitate.
BTW, visible part of the boxer 12 is included in Fujimi's Koenig Testarossa kit with adequate details, and it can be seen through the engine cover.

Wow, thaNKS FOR the photos hirofkd. That would definitely help in my project.
And is the kit shown the box stock Fujimi kit? Or is the engine from somewhere else?

Question about the Koenig Competitions: What's the difference between a Competition Comfort and a regular Competition?
