COMPLETE: Customer's Weird Looking Camaro

Well, it's probably the worst-looking model I've ever built, but not through lack of trying. I must admit the work I put into the body kit was extensive and challenging, and I'm happy with the result (insomuch as it matches the real car.) She was VERY happy with it though, so I guess that means I got it right.

Colour is Tamiya Yellow with flat black interior and yellow highlights. The Hood scoop, side skirts, front air dam, rear fascia, and wing were all fabricated from sheet styrene. The grille over the front is a photo-etched piece that I cut out of an old Nova SS grille. Decals are box stock. Not pictured, after I finished taking the pics, are the rear license plate, which is a homemade decal that says "THE IC0N" , and the headlight lenses, which were tiny rhinestones I found at a craft store. Wheels are from a Revell Saleen Speedster.

Re: COMPLETE: Customer's Weird Looking Camaro

Impressive bodywork, especially the work around the rear end. The whole thing gives me this inexplicable urge to drink Budweiser, buy my girlfriend implants, rock out to Godsmack...get a tribal tattoo and hang out in the bowling alley/Sheetz parking lot doing donuts and giving "the stare" to every person driving a Civic

"THE ICON!?" Bahahahaha!

Where did you finally source the wheels? The rear wheels appear to have a very small amount of positive camber, but that may be a distortion of my monitor.

Just the angle of the photo perhaps. They're from a Revell Saleen Speedster.

Ugly as hell car, but as a replica, I must say, fine job! Just make sure you put the picture of the REAL car next to it, so you can get recognized for the great work that was involved in this build.

So what did you end up using for the head lights? they look very good.

Re: COMPLETE: Customer's Weird Looking Camaro

Well John, as it is for a "customer" I like it a lot. As an avid Camaro fan,........I kind of like it?!?!? I am big for originality though, and I am glad you can capture it on a different scale. I say good job!

Re: COMPLETE: Customer's Weird Looking Camaro

This build looks alot like Camaros I'd see at local car shows where taste and the ability to fix up a car were not included in the same sentence. But for the fact that to me you matched the pics of the real deal perfectly I commend you, there is some excellent body work done under a well done paint finish. Keep up the good work on your next build.

Re: COMPLETE: Customer's Weird Looking Camaro

I have no problem with this Camaro, I've seen way way worse on some "custom" car forums. I think you did a great job on this model and even thou you and most don't care for the originality, you still stuck with it to the end which isnt easy.

Re: COMPLETE: Customer's Weird Looking Camaro

I don't know why everyone is bashing this car (the 1:1)... It's different, but not bad. It's MUCH better than most of the tuners I see driving around and where I live there are more than a few Mustangs with huge wings and body kits that just make me cringe.

As far as the model goes... great job! I think you captured the 1:1 very well and I think this is the best one you've posted to date.

Re: COMPLETE: Customer's Weird Looking Camaro

Well, here's the real car, which somehow manages to look worse than my model. I should also point out that the interior is black with BRIGHT yellow highlights, and it has about $30,000 worth of stereo equipment weighing it down. You know, for performance.

I think the only thing that's a bit off is that the edges of the wing are more round on the real car...

The headlights aren't in the pic!

Those are just some small styrene tubes, painted white on the end.

I have since added little tiny rhinestones I found at a craft store, sanded lightly to get rid of the "crystalized" look. But either way, you can't tell the difference from a few feet away.

Re: COMPLETE: Customer's Weird Looking Camaro

The wheels seem a tiny bit smaller than on the real car. Nice execution, hood came out great. Sweet project.

Good job with the mesh in the front grille, too. I just noticed that.
