Question Exhaust

I have a 94 Integra RS completely stock. Except I just recently put on my Hyaumi Type 2 Exhaust and had the Cat removed. I wanted to keep some back pressure but also free up for performance. I'm new to all this (obviously) tell me how well of an idea that is to do what I did and keep stock piping and just take off the cat and put on the new muffler?? Thx for ur posts!

From what I have heard around the net, a good size exhaust pipe is between 2-2 1/4". This will help the exhaust flow easily out of your new header, but it will also keep back pressure so you don't lose horse power. If I were you, I would get a new header with 2 1/4" piping with no cat and a high performance muffler. This might give you a gain of 20-30 horse power.

20-30 hp? ha, where did you hear that. you'd be lucky to gain 5 hp, from an exhaust.

A friend of mine drives a 200SX and simply had his cat removed and a new muffler put on. A 200SX stock in his year has 110 HP, he can now beat another friend with a 2000 Civic EX with 127 HP, VTEC, and a cold air intake. I don't know how a 5 HP mod will give him enough speed to beat a 127 HP car. Do you? It is not driving technique either, they have raced many times and the 200SX still beats him. So please, if you can prove me wrong, go right ahead. I'm interested in a serious statistic.

exhaust

5HP? hah. A well designed muffler can give you as much as 7% HP increase, which my Hyaumi gauranteed. 7% to me seems to be alot more than 5HP it was enough to notice a difference in the performance when I got it installed.

How could it do it? hmmm, yes it could be driver skill if he's a better shifter. Could also be that the 200SX has a better engine and transmission. Not better in that it has more power, but better in that it makes better use of it. I mean the honda engines ahve no torque and the torque they do have comes at very high rpm ranges. So those extra milliseconds that the civic is revving up to it's torque band could give the 200SX the advantage.

And again, of course it could be driver skill. Racing numerous times and getting the same results doesn't mean it couldn't be driver skill, it just means that your friend with the civic isn't getting any better.

Oh yeah, and just to further prove my point, I'm gonna point out my other favourite argument. Power vs. Weight.

A 2000 Civic ex weighs about 2500lbs.
It produces 127HP at 6600RPM and 107ft-lbs. of torque at 5500RPM.

Meanwhile, a 1995(I'm assuming your friend has an about this year, non-SE-R model) 200SX weighs about 2300lbs.
It produces 115HP at 6000RPM and 108ft-lbs. or torque at 4000RPM.

So, from looking at this then it seems like a 200SX should keep up just fine with an EX civic. It's lighter, and it developes it's torque 1500RPM sooner, which can make a big difference. However, all of this is meaningless information without dyno sheets cause it doesn't matter what the peak HP and Torque ratings are, it's the powerbands that count.

Oh, and don't believe anything a company trying to sell you something says, cause they're lying. Well, they aren't lying cause thats illegal, however the truth they are telling only applies to the very specific set of testing they performed under very strict conditions and believe me, it won't apply to the real world.

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like an ass. Well, actually i did but i can't really help it. I've just got this thing where i don't see the point of doing something unless you do it as well as possible and one of the things I'm good at is arguing, so even when I'm just trying to clarify something I usually come off pretty strong

I don't know, it's just how i am. I don't understand the reason for arguing unless your gonna go full tilt. Kinda like i don't understand why people do up cars unless they're gonna do every single little thing they can to make it faster. I guess thats why i don't understand things like altessa's or stereo systems.

Don't worry about it. I learned a lot from your argument. I agree about the Altezza's, but stereo systems? You can have a fast car that sounds good too.
