1934 Mercedes 540K - 1/38th scale - Finished 5 pics!

Hey me again, as promised, with another model that I did some time ago and took pictures of last weekend.
This was actually my first ever Mercedes that I build. I think it was Airfix 1/38th - not sure anymore, didn't keep the box - but anyway, model is out of the box with only the hood get getting some extra attention. I glued some tissue on it painted it black and drybrushed it. Nothing special really but I thought a 'pre-war' car would make for a nice change, between the Rally, DTM, F-1, lowriders, custom and other modern madness...

Enjoy

Guido

Geez, is that beast chopped? Looks awesome. I wouldn't mind a 30s Cadillac model and make it into a Gangster car.

It's a lot more difficult yes, but I didn't do any extra detailing on this one. Like said it was one of the earlier models I did. Now I would add loads of stuff. I didn't have any reference material at the time, but now my library is much more equipped with Mercedes stuff.

And the only car books my local library has are those little childrens books saying:

"This is a red big car."

or

"This is a Police car, it has sirens"
(Well, DUH!!!!)

Well I must admit that I was lucky to find my bible in a... second hand bookstore. It's titled "Mercedes" and covers the complete history of the Great Star. It's a photobook, 659 pages, and every model ever produced in Stuttgart is in it with 'walk-around-like' pictures from top photographer Rainer W. Schlegemilch. Famous for his F-1 pictures but has done several special projects, like this one as well.

For those of you who are interested, you can find his work here. Schlegelmilch

In fact, let me just add the link to their special books as well, so you have an idea. Generally priced at 29 euros ($29) their more the worth the investment if you're into the subject. Pages gives also some previews of pics in the books. ISBN N°'s are included as well, so you can order them through any decent book store.

Schlegelmilch Books & Art

Cheers,

Guido
