Cool WIP:Subaru WRX WR Limited 2006 + reviews

Just got this kit today from a good friend of mine. A policeman friend of mine gave me motivation to build this kit with his gusto and ento of this year's wrx. To add to that he has a great image of it in orange , So i decided to make one... in fact two ... if he decides to get one. One will be done with a GT wing and change of rims the other will be stock box if my friend decides to get one.

One major kit problem.. if u fit the whole body together u wont be able to attach the chassic to the body without forcing it in... so when painting the model do use masking to hold the parts together and attach the F/R bumpers last when finish the model.

Kit is somewhat unbelievable for a fujimi kit.. so far ZERO mold lines on the body ... thats right ZERO... i looked at the kit 6 times around and over and i couldnt find it... i had to convince myself that it was clean. Its really that good!
This model will be done in Pearl Brillant Orange

Nicely molded seats , Recardo?

Quite detailed interior tub , Includes many parts including center console as a seperate piece

Nice open mesh on the kit

Nice idea of molding the chassic with seperate fuel tanks and other parts for easy painting

Not too bad for clear parts , although i would love seperate window fitting pieces for a flushed look when completed

Nicely molded parts once again. Love the bodykit in this WRX

Nice chrome parts for tail and front headlights

Clear orange and Clear red is molded into the parts

Nice decals too... Standard and an extra piece given for this WR kit

Gold stock box rims... Not too bad

Almost perfect fitting during a dry fit run , only the front left side is sticking out. Rear bumper kits perfectly when glued on.

Thinking of using this BBS rims , 17inch like the kit rims or My weds which are on an airplane coming to my hse soon. Will post pictures when it arrives
BBS im planning either chrome lip and black inside or white lip black inside

Dry fit of light housing is also perfect , no flaws so far

Body now primed and spraying colour after i finish typing this

Thanks and i hope u all find this review useful... And buy more WRX and post more :P hardly see these models come by here lol .

Do you ever have time to eat, sleep, or even work?

You have like 3 build ups going right now don't you?!

I love those WRX's. Just don't use that grill, it looks out of scale.

Thanks for the review. I have read some horror stories on this kit before about the front and rear bumpers. And may be people are staying away from this kit for this reason? I don't know but it is good to see you start it.

I agree with the other poster here about your time mangement skills. I am really intersted to find out how you can manage to get so much done...

Re: Wip:Subaru WRX WR Limited 2006 + reviews

Agreed - It's a very high quality kit, as long as you realize the chassis fit issue before you've gone too far.

I love those wheels! They're made for STI by Ray's IIRC. They've shown up on several special edition Imprezas over the years.

I have a set I stole from from the Maisto WRX that are supposed to be the same wheels, but they suck in comparison to those.

I kinda think I shoulda held out to get that lip and maybe the sideskirts... But I do like that the Spec C kit I got was molded in white.

Can't wait to see more!!

auw12 > Hahaha! Their actually the same size as the stock rims , standing at 17inch in 1/24 scale

Samurai > My orange didnt go what i was actually looking for... The brillant orange looks like dull crap orange .. Brillant my ass .... !

Jay > The rims look really good im actually considering putting the kit rims back on to the car! So right now i have like 3 rims to choose from

Winstona & Enzoenvy > Im actually slower now... Used to produce 4 kits out in 2 weeks when i was doing my 4 DTM mercs. Got exams now and stuff.. so i kinda have make full use of one hour or even a mere 10 mins.

I wonder if a silver undercoat would make the orange pop.

Re: Wip:Subaru WRX WR Limited 2006 + reviews

Thinking.. Rather , Considering using this rims for the REX.
Sparco 17inch.

I decided to have some fun with the paint.. and i really hated the orange.. its totally NOT the colour on the cap! And no i didnt use grey primer , it was white. So i decided to go over the car with yellow and this is what i got

Too bright and yellowish.. so i gave it one more very wet coat of orange then nice uneven wet coat of yellow and this is what i got. I used the pennzoil to show the colour difference between yellow and the yellowish orange i got.

This im very happy with.. have a contrasting colour but very mild .

Pearl will be added then polished to shine

ah really?but i suggest a bigger set mate, you know FUJIMI always offers smaller wheels than they should be,and the color looks sweet~~

Looking good so far.
Can I ask you where you keep your model to dry and where is your spraying place, pictures would be nice.
I am trying to achieve no dust on my paint jobs, but it seems super hard.

spray indoors in a spray booth in a clean room. then place your freshly painted parts into a plastic storage bin with a lid on it.once the paint has set up, you can remove it an dplace it in the dehydrator, orsomewhere so it can have good ventilation to gas out the paint.

Re: WIP:Subaru WRX WR Limited 2006 + reviews

Pearl paint added , Weds TC005 rims will be used. Detailed my intercooler.
I tried hand painting the panel lines instead of spraying this time... looks not bad but some parts uneven... i wanted to try as i wanted to see how acrylic paint would be like using for panel lines. Looks ok but need more touch ups.

Pearl coat effect

WRC sticker instead of STI

Polished alloy colour .. not easy to spot the difference but the top ones are polished bottom is stock mold colour

Panels lines and current progress

When glued on it will fix perfectly

Enjoy and thanks for all the replies and post... I will try to answer the questions but im quite busy these 2 weeks ...
