My front speakers in my 98 Integra work intermittingly. Sometimes when you hit a bump they will come on for a short time. I checked the connections and they appeared to be good. This is the factory system. Any help?

that doesnt sound like blown speakers to me. i dont think that blown speakers just decide to turn off and on from time to time and whenever you hit a bump.
When i put my aftermarket eclipse's in i had sorta the same problem with the sound turning on and off. I the speakers out and found that i had done a poor soldering job and bits of the wire would touch other parts of metal on the door and each other. everytime the wires would shift around in the speker housing the sound would stop and then come back on a few minutes later. My advice would be to take all the connections off and check the wires and harnesses and everything. Look for breaks in the insulation of the wires and then make sure the harnesses all have a good solid connection with the wire and connector when you put everything back together. My guess is that it turns on when you hit a bumb because some connection is made that wasnt there before when the wire shifts position. If you still have problems, test a different pair of speakers from a buddies ride that you know work and see if the same problem arises. If its solved with the new speakers then your factory ones dont work. If its the same then you've got a problem with something in the car (probably the cd player, head unit, wiring, fuses, etc.)

strangely enough, they do .... a blown speaker is usually where a part of the wire in the voice coil has been burnt thru. It has a problem playing because it is an open circuit at the neutral position. When you hit a bump, it can change that and start playing for a while. Since these are stock speakers, you don't have to take the door apart to look at the wiring - since it isn't anything you could have messed up. If this were an aftermarket system then I would start checking all the wires first.

if your car is still under warranty, take it in and let em fix it for you. if not i would still try another pair of speakers and see if the prblem continues

I agree either its a bad voice coil in the speaker or the harness thats connected to the speaker or at the deck going to the speaker:greenchai

again ... I would find that easier tobelieve if it were aftermarket - most OEM systems don't seem to have the wiring problems, they are designed to be trouble-free.

honda/acura stock radios are notorious for going bad.....im a honda tech, we dont normaly see bad wires(ever) or bad speakers(rarely) but see radios go bad....

Totally agree with gunmen01 on this!!I guess, one thing Honda never paid attention to! I had the same problem so I did some research, found out most Honda/Acura Recall Listing have the OEM radio listed as such, DEFECTIVE. That's normally the described symptom. The recall is never implemented by manufacturer, since the problem will not lead to any harm/danger to public or individual. To all Honda/Acura owners, save yourself the trouble of checking the wires, replace the HU, like I did. |
