HELP......#33 Spiderman M1 Paint Color

Here is my problem, but was looking for some input from some of you more experienced modlers.

1. I am ready to start my #33 Spiderman M1. I have been drilling my head about the color red that should be used. SMS says to use TES2939 (Racing Red) because it is a deadmatch for the decals on the windscreen and the wheels. However its not the red we see on TV or through pictures because it darkens just like the Ferraris or the MP4's, 5's etc......

Here is a pic on their instructions:

2. The other Spiderman M1's you see on the net have used TS-49. I could paint the the windscreen instead of the decal and the wheel decals are easily obtainable.

Here is a pic of one posted here a while ago:

Now the question, do I build as we see it with the human eye or do I follow the norm and build as we see it through the camera. This has been eating me up for the past day or so, any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanx
Doug

Re: HELP......#33 Spiderman M1 Paint Color

I have the same decal sheets.

First, I must say I love SMS stuff. I have many and I'm always pleased. But this time, they got it all wrong for the color. You should use Tamiya TS-49 color, and not that king of orange of the decal. It's completely off and don't look like the real Bike.

I was one of the first to buy them and I complained about the color. They said it was dead on and that every single picture on the web was bad... euh what ? Everyone is wrong and you have the solution ? Common... This bike IS red and not Fluorescent Orange. Have you ever see Spiderman in Fluorescent Orange shirts ? Even in the bad 90's, he was probably the only one not to wear damn fluo color clots.

So My guess is SMS had it wrong and they want to sell the sheets anyway. I'm sure the picture might be a bit off, but not that much. Anyway, Spiderman is red since the first day, and not fluo orange. Even their instruction are red and not bright orange

Use TS-49 for the Red and TS-50 for the blue. Use the decal that come with the kit for the tires and windscreen (it match perfectly TS-49) and just don't mind about those bad orange color decal from SMS.

Btw, you should consider the Crazy Modeling Photo-Etched sets. I got it today and it's VERY impressive.

Re: HELP......#33 Spiderman M1 Paint Color

Thanx for your input, my better half has said the same thing. I already have Studio 27 photetch, but thanx for the suggestion. I complained to them to but I got the " we sat on the bike and that is the color of it", I called BS to but I never saw it in person so I am all busted up on it. I will do some more research and see what happens, but TS-49 sounds like the way to go.

Edit.....TS-49 it is.......

Thanx Guys
Doug

Re: HELP......#33 Spiderman M1 Paint Color

I am working on this bike and I used ts-49 and it looks very good in my opinion. I have the Renaissance decals and they say to use ts49, it even comes with a mask for the windshield.
If you are worrying about the colour, wait till you get to the painting and decal application. Which colour will you paint first and are you going to check the masking and decals line up?
I went white primer then red then decal then clear then mask off red and prime white then apply blue then remove mask then apply decal then trim decal then clear then remask and lightly recoat the blue then remove mask and clear everything.
Time consuming and stressful.

BTW guys, which M1 kit are you using with SMS decals? They state the Rossi one (kit# 98?) is a perfect fit, yet with a Fortuna (kit #100) version available, with obviously the correct bodywork for Marco and Checa, I'd prefer to use that one...

I'd also go for TS49 - no contest!

I used the fortuna one, but you still need to cut the cowling and windshield slightly.

Ok here we go, first prime the parts with white Tamiya primer, the Tamiya pink. When you have let that dry a day or two, paint TS49 in light coats, 3 should just about do it. The ping gives a great TV fluro glow to paint and its just about spot on.

hold onto your nickers people, MSM Creation is doing the bike and rider decals for Spiderman tho he said they may be out in 2 weeks.

I should have them in that time unless he is behind.

The pics I have show the Web decals overlap onto the some of the blue so Im doing just the opposite. Blue first, white primer, red then decal. Im waiting on my white primer to come in so I can get head first into this bad boy. Started doing some of the silver screen decals on the front wheel fender? took me 45 minutes, ouch..... LOL
