Could I fit into a mustang?

So I am 23 years old, 6'8" and about 280 pounds. I am in the process of buying a sub $20,000 car and right now am looking at used Cobras 99-2003 (would really like a 2003). But could I fit in one? It would be a coupe, not a convertable I would be looking at. To give frame of reference, the last two cars I have owne were a 92 Nissan Maxima and a 91 Infiniti Q45, both of which fit me well.

Damn you're tall! Lol. I'm pretty certain that you would fit but I am not too sure how comfortable it would for you, especially if you are planning long trips. Best bet would be to find one for sale somewhere near you and see if you can have a seat in it. But as far as fitting, yes im sure you can, the seat goes back pretty far on the 99+. For a sports car, mustangs are pretty user-convenient and comfortable. Anyway, hope my input helped.

The additional question with this is steering wheel clearance... I would need enough room to be able to use the clutch.

Well I'm about 5'8ish (i know im a short little guy) and with the seat moved all the way back I can barely push the clutch in all the way, if that gives you any clue as to how much room you'll have. And steering wheel shouldnt be a problem since they have tilt. And if you get power seats (not sure if the 99+ comes with em standard or not), it should offer you even more accessability since they move up downs and forward and backward, as well as lean the seat forward and backward. But like I said, just take it for a nice long test drive before you buy it to see if you are comfortable in it. My guess would be that it would be fine, but dont spend thousands of dollars based on my estimate.

well im 6' and i have a lot of room to spare, id think youd be ok. the six way power seat is really nice.lol i just hope u dont plan on having someone sit behind you with the seat back that far. if it isnt long enough, you can mod your seat rails so the seat can go back further.

Guys, you are forgetting, he is 6'8, you are 5'8 and 6ft. That's a big difference. A friend of mine is also 6'8 and 275. He has a 2000 Grand Prix and he has to push the seat all the way back and tilt the back button down all the way and then lean the seat back also. Just go to a dealer and sit in one, it's the only way to find out if you like it or not. Good luck.

Yepp, best bet would be to just sit in one. But as far as sports cars go, or just cars in general, theyre pretty roomy for the driver and passenger alike.

I agree. I'm 6'2" and 230 lbs, and I barely fit comfortably.
I still have so recline the seat back a bit more than is ideal just to get my head to fit, in my '87.

I had a mustang a while back with Recaros. They were lower on the floor than the stock seats.
If you get a Mustang, count on modifying the seats or going with an aftermarket thin-shell seat mounted lower to the floor.

At 6'8" I think you will not be comfortable and having room for you legs to lift for room on the clutch pedal. I'm 6'2" I think have just enough room to deal with it in a 99-04 Mustang but it is by no means ideal.

The only way I honestly seeing you driving one in a stick comfortably would be after doing the very common seat track modification to get the seat to go back even farther. Even then I don't know to be honest...

Thanks for the feedback all. I am test driving an '03 cobra with 22,000 miles on it on Wednesday and see how it fits. Any idea what the rail mods cost? Or how much new seats altogether might run? This one I am checking out seems to be a real steal at $21,900, so if it at all sounds like the seller is describing it, I will likely pick it up.

The modification for your seat track is free. If you do an internet search one of the Mustangs sites has a good detailed picturial of how to do it.

Yeah I'm guessin you could for sure.....I currently have a 97 WS.6 but I test drove a ton of mustangs and cobras in my shopping period.....I'm 6'5" and about 220 lbs. and I fit into stangs easily....only problem i have is my shoe size is pretty big on the clutch movement but it's not a big deal at all......just like everyone else said.....go sit in one

Well I am 6'4", 260 pounds, and I barely fit in one. It had nothing to do with my fatness...lol, I dont even look fat, but with my head and legs...it was a tight squeeze. The free mod rail thing is on mustangworld.com, then click on how-tos and then just scroll down some. After the mod, it will send the seat back another 1.75 inches, so its not that mad.
